Today I had with me several people who have really been wanting to get into geocaching, but wanted me to take them out for a few caches before they invested in a GPS. Since today at St. Vital park was the only opportunity I had to show 'em a geocache or two.

Unfortunately, the first one we went to's hiding spot appears to have had some issues lately... but THIS one was aaaall good. Since it was her first time using a GPS, she kinda wandered around a bit before being able to zero in on the coordinates. Since mine doesn't have an electronic compass, she got a little confused here and there when turning in one spot didn't make the 'arrow' do anything. After a few pushes of "walk 10 feet in THAT direction and see what the arrow does", we finally navigated her to the cache .

Hence... in the logbook, you'll see "Serena" found the cache today, and traded a guitar-shaped bottle opener for a spinny-top.

Distinct possibility that we have a few new geocachers on our hands now .

YES! Yay for the GPS system. For the record... mapquest is horrible. Damn website must have taken me a couple hundred feet from the actual cache. Yeah, once I actually have a CORRECT idea as to where the cache was, it was pretty easy to locate. Yay for taking out one of my previous DNF's! Thank you quite kindly for the cache :}

Ahh, unlucky number 6. Sixth cache I've ever tried to find, and this is the first to elude me. Oh well... at least I have an excuse. 1. I don't own a GPS system yet, 2. I'll remind you that I'm new, and 3. The ONLY clue to it's location that I had with me is the map below. Our printer is very cheap, and only the red is working on it. So I ballpark I could only narrow it down to about 100 square meters or so. Oh, and I forgot to look at the hints before I left, or check if it's winter accessable/etc to give me a clue as to where it could be.
Don't worry... I'll be back soon enough. Maybe give it another try tomorrow, or failing that I might leave it until I actually get a GPS system. Odds are I circled it at least a dozen times though :P
