I had hidden 5 temporary caches for them to find. They traded some of their badges for swag in the caches. Afterward, I decided to place a new cache in the park with the badges collected from the girls. The cache is winter friendly and flood friendly given the fact that this area frequently floods in the spring. The container is a large plastic jar. It came from SF "Seed" Cache (GC1HVEC) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.

Wow, it has been WAY too long since my last cache find. It saddens me to say that I just got off my longest stretch to date without finding a geocache... 33 days. Thankfully however, this cache has broken this horrendous streak . Well, thankfully at least the days lined up such that I haven't missed finding at least one cache inside each calendar month.

However, for the past... hell, I dunno... several weeks, I've been meaning to go out geocaching. Due to various plans, gatherings, or otherwise time-consuming activities, I've been unable to break away from things long enough to geocache. The crux of this is that I'm the only geocacher among all of my close friends. And it's not for lack of trying... I've attempted to convert them to geocaching, but alas... tis not to be . However, typically when I have spare time, I'll be hanging out with a friend, and as they aren't cachers, we will find something mutually entertaining to do.

Today however... I had some spare time. Today, the streak would be broken. Although just barely. the first 2/3rds of the day I spent doing various errands and shopping. It being Sunday, I had to get the shopping in first before everything closed. After all that was said and done, I set out to find a geocache. Originally I was planning on tackling several today, however by the time my errands were complete, it was sitting at about 5:00pm. And thanks to the god-forsaken idiocy that is daylight savings time changes, an hour more of daylight has been stripped from the end of our days.

Seriously... whoever invented daylight savings time should be shot. And while I'm at it, we need to switch to metric time, and ditch time zones too. The time of day is just a concept people! Stop adjusting the time to fit your mental conditioning of how bright certain hours should be, and instead adjust society around the passage of time! Does anyone else realize how much of a boon to global trade this would be, having a universal time!

But I digress... quite a bit too, it seems. Yeah, don't get me started on that .

Anyhoo... with the sunset being at about 4:50pm,.and dusk being at about 5:30, I didn't really have all that much time to work with. So naturally, traffic was ridiculously slow. Realizing I maybe had time for only one cache before full dark came on (not to mention that a friend was coming over at about 6:00pm), I checked the GPS for what was closest. AHA! A regular-size cache in St. Vital park, just about on the way home, and big enough that I might actually find it in the waning light! Working my way there, I parked about 150 meters away and hopped out of the car. Quickly working my way towards the cache (and having fun kicking through the vast number of leaves on the ground), I soon found myself at ground zero. A biker was unhooking his bike from a tree about 10 meters away from the coordinates though. Thinking that there's no way that couldn't be a geocacher, I asked him straight out if he geocached. Alas, he said no . However, he had heard of it, so I gave him a quick rundown of it, so who knows... we may have a new cacher in the end .

After the biker moved along, I started towards the cache. It didn't take long before I had found , thankfully enough! I swear, every minute that passed, it got about half as bright as the last minute! The cache itself is actually quite hard to see unless you're at the right angle, so I thankfully happened to come in from that way, especially with the lack of light. A quick poking around through the cache (took a geocoin to move along), and I replaced it almost as hidden. The last cacher indicated that they weren't sure if it would stay, so I found a way to get it back in place with virtually no chance of slipping out .

Thanks for breaking my dry spell! It was a fun cache in one of my favourite parks .
