Construction of this extension to the Trans Canada Trail began in fall of 2009 and I suspect it will continue in spring of 2010. Come see the progress and grab this cache! No parking nearby, may be a bit of a hike to get to GZ, so enjoy the walk! Walk will be a lot better when the pathway is finished!!

Found it 7/20/2011 by Kabuthunk
Well, this particular cache was quite the adventure of sorts. So I decided that after work today, I’d go on a hunt to try to find a cache capable of taking a travelbug that I’ve been trying to drop off, yet haven’t had success in finding a container that it will fit into. You wouldn’t realize how difficult it is to find a cache capable of taking a CD-case until you actually attempt to find one.

With that in mind, despite the weather, according to the weather network, felt like +34 out. I have to admit they must be right though… it DID feel a lot cooler than usual.

One long day of work later, I hop into my car and head towards the coordinates. Very soon, my GPS is beeping angrily at me. Looking at it, to find out why it’s complaining when I’m so damn far away from the cache, I notice that it’s telling me to make a U-turn. I quickly realize it’s near Waverley and Bishop Grandin, and NOT Waverley and the Perimeter. Whoops… mis-looked at the GPS earlier it seems. So quickly correcting myself, and after much looping around, I eventually find my way to a parking spot in the residential zone about 300 meters from the cache. Time to go on foot!

Either due to the time (about 6:30pm) or the heat, it was pretty much dead empty while I was walking, so that made things easy. I strode on up to the seemingly obvious place the cache might be, and quickly found a way inside.

At this point, I saw something I VERY much so didn’t expect. It appears as though someone has taken up residence in this particular location. There was clothing, random garbage, a sleeping mat of some sort, and other odds and ends scattered around in here. Quickly looking around, I spotted nobody nearby. It appears said living quarters are either abandoned, or the person dwelling here wandered off during the day. One way or another, I wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. I contemplated whether I should clean up, but seeing as I had no clue if anyone would return at any moment, I just wanted to beat a hasty retreat as soon as possible. I’m quite a paranoid type person, so generally in such a situation, I’ll picture the worst scenario.

Anyhoo, I didn’t spot the cache immediately, and I figured there was a good chance the cache went astray when the resident moved in here. I stepped out to check the cache description on my palm pilot, and it told me basically what I assumed to begin with ToungeOut. Stepping back in, somehow this time I managed to spot the container almost instantly! Amazingly, it was basically right beside the local resident’s sleeping mat! So I don’t know if said person is ignoring it, or hasn’t seen it, but it’s still there one way or another. I very quickly signed the logbook and tossed in a chainmail ball, and closed everything up. At which point, I beat a hasty retreat.

I’m not sure if I would have left the TB there… probably not… but it wouldn’t have fit anywhere. In my opinion, this cache isn’t even remotely close to ‘regular’ cache size (which the site indicates lists ‘ammo can’ as an example… which like, 3 of these would fit into ToungeOut). In either case, a hasty retreat was beaten back towards the car. I have no clue if anyone still lives here… but I wasn’t staying around to find out. Cache owner may want to look into this one. The sleeping mat looked like it may not have been used in a bit, but I’m not exactly an expert on identifying if a homeless mat is recently used or not.

In either case, this would be a really nice cache location (kinda wondered why one wasn’t here way back when I found The Glacier), and I imagine it’ll still be really nice once again when someone moves out, or their living quarters are cleaned out if they no longer reside here.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and chainmail ball

Hints (Back)
Yes, it is one of "those" hides, but it is big so should be fairly easy to find.
