Second cache of the day, and what ended up being the final cache with the family Blagden. We were debating whether or not to go after either of the other two caches immediately in town, pretty much because of their size. The younger cachers of Blagden tend to enjoy the trading, but since everyone in general enjoys the finding aspect, we decided to tackle at least one of them. Since this cache was closest to the 'On the button' cache that we just found, this one got the winning vote.

A few roads later (by the way... Elm Creek REALLY needs to consider paving some more roads in town... or at least running a gravel truck and a grader over them), and we neared ground zero. In fact, we accidentally just about went PAST ground zero, before I even realized that I was that close . Parking on the side of the road, we hopped out and headed towards the coordinates. As we began to wander closer to ground zero, we discovered... that this was clearly a common play area for kids. Well... yes, we ARE in a playground, but specifically within a few meters of ground zero was all what seemed to be a hidden little play spot. Thankfully, the park was dead-empty, and we were free to search at ease.

But... can a cache survive both winter, AND the fact that kids are constantly playing in the immediate vicinity? That was my primary worry... I've seen many caches that have simply been too close to kids play areas, and disappeared. Kids are curious creatures, and tend to check every crevace of everything. However, I crossed my fingers and we searched onwards. The first few minutes we were completely clueless. I had a hunch as to where the cache might be, but ended up discarding it and searching other methods of hiding after the first few hunch spots were empty. I should have kept going though, since in the long run, I located the cache in the style of hide that I had somewhat figured it'd be using. Nice spot! And the logbook inside was absolutely bone-dry, so neither winter nor the onslaught of children could outmatch the cache .

So yes, a very fun adventure of the four of us searching everywhere around the area. One signing and a micromail ball later, and I replaced the cache as I had found it. It's kinda strange though... the cache is seemingly invisible... but once you actually KNOW where it is, it almost seems to be screaming at you from it's hiding spot. Then again... the same can be said about most geocaches, I suppose . Yet another one of the unusual aspects about geocaching.

But anyway, thanks for giving us another reason to head out to Elm Creek with my relatives. There definitely needs to be more caches out in this area of the province, so at least the Elm Creek caches have been giving us something to go after the past few visits . As an added bonus, we still have one more cache in Elm Creek that we left for the next time.
