Our third cache attempt, second cache find of the day. Myself, my two nieces and brother-in-law (now known under the username 'Blagden') headed out to this cache shortly after grudgingly accepting a DNF at the 'On the Button' cache. I think my nieces were kinda cold from having gotten snow in their boots at 'On the Button', and had cold hands in general, so my brother-in-law and I went after this one while the others stayed in the car.

We were at first at bit worried about parking right near the coordinates, but being as it's Saturday, everything seemed pretty quiet in general. I somewhat assumed that whatever the nearby building is, it was closed for the weekend. I could easily be wrong, but it seemed quiet nonetheless, and noone drove in or out while we were there.

Not that we were there that long, though. After hopping out of the car and gingerly trekking across the muddy driveway (ahh, memories of growing up in rural Manitoba... specifically on a gravel road in the middle of nowheresville), we worked our way to the coordinates. I wasn't standing there even 5 seconds before I had spotted the cache container. I think that this time of year in general made locating it a lot easier, since I imagine in the full bloom of spring and summer, finding that container would be a LOT more difficult . Nonetheless, after the recent DNF, we weren't about to look a gift cache in the mouth. Poking around inside the container, Blagden made a trade for his daughters, while I lobbed in my trademark chainmail ball, and retrieved what I thought was a geocoin. It appears none are logged into this cache, and on closer inspection of the coin, that it seems to be trackable elsewhere... pathtags to be specific. Definitely a first for me, so I'll log it there however that's done shortly. Although, what annoys me is that I completely forgot that I have a TB that I need to move along, and thus it didn't get dropped off anywhere in Elm Creek . Ah well... I'll have to move it along elsewhere as soon as I can. It's been moved up to the top of my geocaching bag, so hopefully it's more noticeable .

But I'm getting off-topic (like that never happens ). The cache... we found it, Blagden made a trade or two of some sort (he should be logging online eventually), I lobbed in the chainmail ball, and signed the logbook for the both of us. We slipped the cache container back from whence it had come, and returned to the car.

And I just realized something about all of these caches I simply didn't notice before. None of these have been found since early December! Glad to have been able to give them some action this year... the first for 2009, it seems . I always like finding caches that haven't been found in quite a while... gives a bit more of a feeling of accomplishment than say, a film-canister that's been found like... almost daily since it was placed. As a cache owner, I know I like to see a find log after a long time on my own caches, since it at least lets me know it's still kicking around .

But again, I digress. Thanks for the cache, which also inadvertantly introduced me to this 'pathtags' site. Always good to get out caching again after a several-week dry spell .
