This area is rich with history. You could spend weeks here just reading the memorials. The Cache is not necessarily winter friendly. But it is also not winter un-friendly either. Some digging will be required at the final, but the hiding spot, and the cache, are large enough that you should be able to find it. In the summer, watch out for wasps and hornets. I have decided to bring you over the bridges to the French Quarter of our fair city. If you are an intrepid soul and the weather is fair, you could complete this on on foot, but using an HPV (Human Powered Vehicle) is ideal. In the winter, TAKE A CAR! THIS IS WINNIPEG! Location 1 - At Posted Coordinates The first (posted) set of coordinates will lead you to Coronation Park. This was the site of my first Geocache, which was muggled within 5 hours of my placing it. This is a pleasant little park and one of the oldest in the city. A fun day would be to pick up some Burgers and Fries at Mrs. Mikes down the street and enjoy a picnic here. But for the purposes of this cache you are looking at the monument. Not the big one...the small one. What is the second number in the Legion # that this memorial is dedicated to. This number is "A" Location 2 - 49 53.211 - 97 07.395 We are looking for the year Tache arrived here. Add the first to the fourth number of that year to get "B" Location 3 - 49 53.170 - 97 07.383 How many "adult" bison are on this monument. Subtract 3 from this number to get "C". Location 4 - 49 53.130 - 097 07.387 Marvel at how many days the nuns spent in a canoe on their way here. Subtract this number from 60 to get "D". Location 5 - 49 53.965 - 97 07.645 To find the final number, count all of the bolts in this structure...just kidding! Look up. Methinks CJBWielgosz was thinking this cache was a 'traditional' style. You only want some information from the monument... the cache is elsewhere. An elsewhere that I was able to locate as my fifth and final cache of the day . Bit of an adventure this thing put me on, to boot... it more ways than you think.

I had actually gotten the info from location 1 a few months ago, however didn't have the opportunity (or just got lazy ) to go after the others. Today however, I was in the process of clearing out a massive pile (aka: 5... but that's about 1/3rd) of caches from my Dani-Radius. This multi has been dwelling inside that Radius for too long now . I couldn't remember what value I came up with for "A", so I ended up re-visiting location 1 again anyway. Several people were in the park, but they paid me no attention, since I walked in and out quickly. Dropping the remaining four locations into my GPS as waypoints, and I was on my way! To the second park!

I actually also got another find at the second park while obtaining the values for "B", "C", and "D". Can't go wrong with a bonus cache . But after paying for parking (*shakes fist at his now-empty change slot in the car*) and snagging the three values, I noticed that the fifth value ways way off. Hence... I decided to see if I could work without it. Creating a few waypoints for possible answers, I headed off to what seemed the most logical. Telling my GPS to navigate me to there by following the road... it told me to loop around and go over the bridge down Main.

Seemed a bit odd, but I figured it knew a shortcut. Continuing down main... continuing... still going... turn on Higgins?!? What the hell? Umm... ok... since there's traffic behind me, and this isn't an area I'd be too fond of stopping in anyway, I continued down Higgins. Zooming out on the GPS, I now realized what it was doing. It saw that the closest 'road' to the coordinates was actually the other side of the river! The GPS just thought that it would be fastest if I parked on the nearest road, and then just... crossed the river. Easy-peasy.

Yeah, screw that! I quickly point at a road vaguely close to the coordinates and tell it to follow the road THERE. On the CORRECT side of the river! Time for another adventure! A bit more looping around and past the paddlewheel rouge (at least I think it's that one... just over that very metal bridge), and back to the general vicinity I needed to be in! Eventually, I ended up at the correct park. I figured it would be here regardless... but I put too much faith in the GPS. I should have verified it before following blindly .

The parking lot was empty in park #3 here, so I hopped out and jogged over to the coordinates. I was on a limited timeline by this point, so I had to move it. A few minutes later, I was crouched down, cache in hand . Nice location! I also really like this park as a whole. I still have yet to bike here and find the awesome bike trails I've been told about. It was definitely a fun puzzle and find, despite driving around for 15 minutes extra for it . In fact, this cache got itself a limited-edition titanium chainmail ball .

Snagging the travelbug to migrate it along, I headed out. I was hoping to be able to make one or two more finds, but ran out of the for the day. Thanks for the fifth and last cache of the day! A fun cache to end a gorgeous day for wandering around parks . I however COMPLETELY forgot to obtain the three-digit number under the lid for the massive final cache in Ottawa. However, the odds of me actually finding the rest, or even going to Ottawa anytime in the vaguely, remotely, within-the-next-10-years is ridiculously slim to nil. Unless of course I get a massive raise and can retire at the age of 40 or something .
