All votes must be logged in by 11:59pm on October 25, 2006. The rules are simple, there is a 3” x 2” pill bottle hidden in each one of the 15 Wards, for a ward map, see Page 47 of the City of Winnipeg – White Pages. Each one has a log book and a list of 4 letter words, bring your own writing stick. Pick a word from the list and log it in the book and log your find on line with the word. Do Not Remove the Word List! Each letter in the word has a numeric value (example: bird = 5729 votes) and that will be the number of votes you received in that ward. Unfortunately, you will not know the numeric value till October 26, 2006. There is also First to Find Cert. in each with A Bonus Votes word which will have to be logged on line. I was juuuuuust about to pass on going after this geocache, but decided to go against my gut instincts and go for it. This turned out to be both a bad, and a good decision, as will be seen.

The first time I dropped by here, I climbed on over and got all of about 45 seconds of searching. A rather unpleasant group of kids had biked in and were looking at me funny, as I was standing at the base of that dirt road thing there. I kinda wandered a bit, acting as though waiting for something, hoping that they would keep biking onwards. No such luck .

At which point, things had gone decidedly downhill, at quite an alarming rate. They suddenly went into a group huddle for a moment, and all I could hear was the occasional word of "maybe we should" and "yeah, let's do that". At this point, several of them decided to break off of the pack and start to move to either side of me .

At which point my mind was like "Ok, screw the cache for now, take the DNF and get your butt OUT OF THERE!!!!!" At which point, I listened to my mind, and scrambled quite quickly up the dirt slope and started walking towards the rest of the people standing on the walking bridge there. Glancing back, they appear to have not followed me. *whew*, yeah, that's all I need. Come home to my fiancee, beaten to a pulp, devoid of all possessions. Super.

So... I stood on the bridge and watched various parts of the ice-jam that I had spotted going after the "Norwood Blitz" cache float along. Felt kinda cool actually... when a really big chunk of ice hit the pillars, I could feel a slight vibration. Since there was about another 20 people doing the same, I felt rather safe. After about 10 minutes, I walked back to see if they had moved on. *sigh* Nope. In fact, at this point they appeared to be having fun smashing bottles or other glass objects in that bushy area. Great. Now... I may have a serrated hunting knife on me... but that's not going to do much against about 8 punk kids on bikes, armed with god knows how many broken bottles.

I cut my losses and wandered to the Forks. After about 45 minutes, again... despite my mind telling me to cut and run... went against gut instinct and walked back. I WAS IN LUCK! The pack had moved on to bring down the property values of somewhere ELSE! Seeing the place entirely deserted, I quickly swept down and began searching. After about another minute, I had the cache in hand. Did a quick signing of it, lobbed in a chainmail ball, and closed it up. Didn't even look at the word sheet though. Was more concerned with getting out of there as fast as possible. The last thing I'd need is for them to come back while I was sitting there with the cache in my hands.

So... put the cache back (BTW... logscroll is pretty damp... likely needs drying out in the sun for an hour... which I wasn't about to do given the circumstances... or replacing sometime in the near future. Still writable at the moment though), and scrambled out of there. YES! The last thing I wanted was a DNF to need later resolving in an area where I narrowly avoided getting mugged.
