Yes It is time again! This is the WWFM III and last time over 4,400 cachers wordwide were at the event all over the globe, this one promises to be even bigger!

A Flash Mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, and then quickly disperse.

DATE : Saturday, May 10, 2008
TIME: 12:00 Noon to 12:15 (only 15 minutes!)
WHERE: Forks Market - middle of skating rink.

This Flash Mob Gathering of Geocachers will be only 15 minutes long. You MUST be present and sign the log sheet DURING this time to claim this event. After 15 minutes…we're gone!

This event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one second longer! This event will be one small part of the WWFM (world-wide flash mob event). This event (and all others around the globe in their respective time zone) will begin precisely at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, May 10th.

At exactly 12:00 (as determined by your GPS clock) a bucket for log sheets will be placed near the coordinates. As you arrive, you’ll be handed a "log sheet." Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become the log book). To qualify for attendance, drop them in the designated bucket. Bring your own pen – in fact, why not bring your own slip of paper with only your trail name written on it, legibly enough for others to decipher. Names will be drawn from the bucket of log sheets for the FTF prize.

At a designated time, we will take a group photo. At exactly 12:15AM, the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be evacuated without a trace. Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log THIS event.

ITINERARY:

11:45 - 11:59 AM - Participants: Wait patiently in your vehicles or stroll around the area. STAY AWAY from ground zero until the signal is given. As much as you can, act like a muggle, pretend not to know each other or give any indication that something is about to happen. At 10:59AM we will reach ground zero with the bucket. This is the signal for the Flash Mob Event to begin. Everyone now makes their way to GZ.

12:00 Noon - Log sheets will be handed out for those who did not bring their own. Bring your own writing instrument. Sign individual log sheets and drop them in the collection box. Mingle. Trade travel bugs and coins. Share stories. Brag. Take pictures. Make arrangements to meet elsewhere, or to find the various caches in the nearby area.

12:07 - FTF Prize draw

12:11 - Assemble for a group photo, and assemble FAST. Listen to the photographer for directions. Group photo is taken.

12:14 - For one long minute eveyone will FREEZE in their places, standing stooping, sitting exactly as they were at 12:14.

12:15 EXACTLY - Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area quickly and in different directions. Meet elsewhere if desired. The log sheet bucket will be packed up. If you don't get to it in time you can't log the event.

If everything goes right we will have lots of people coming out of nowhere and gathering for 15 minutes, holding a geocaching event, freezing for 1 minute and then disappearing…This could be lots of fun and will raise a few muggle eyebrows!

Yet another fun geoswarm attended (I thought there was some vague, unofficial verdict that future mob caches here would be called geoswarms... where'd that go?). And this time, my brand new wife was with me BigSmile. She's not so much into geocaching in general... however the fact that she just got a new digital camera means she's wanting to test it out. She's got a video of the swarm, and then another one of the freeze part... so I'll be putting that on youtube once I get a chance (just search youtube for the user "Kabuthunk").

But yeah... was almost mildly worried I wouldn't get here on time. Prior to the geoswarm, I went out to go pick out new glasses, since Saturday is the only day both my wife and I aren't at work during the office hours of the glasses place. And they're only open from 10:00-2:00 on Saturday. I wanted her along since otherwise, I'd be picking for all intents and purposes identical glasses to what I currently have ToungeOut.

But I digress. I almost didn't make it here due to picking out glasses and whatnot, but in the end made it with time to spare. Poked around the various stores for a bit, and then slowly worked our way close to an entrance when the time was nearing.

I was mildly confused when Z'tirnats was walking towards the coordinates, but lacking a pail. However, when he pulled out the trusty bucket from a large bag, it all made sense and the swarm began. At this point, my wife hung back and taped the general swarming. As others have mentioned though... the chill in the air may have kept the number of random bystanders down to a minimum. Seriously, whatever worldly committee that plans the worldwide flash mob events need to take into account that not all places on earth are warm 365 days a year (well... 366 this year). I just hope there's another one sometime in summer, when the outdoors will be rife with bystanders.

Having forgotten to pre-write a log entry, I quickly jotted one down on my trusty notepad, and tossed it into the bucket. Following it... the chainmail ball. Someone's son picked it up and was quite amused with it. Almost sadly though, he tossed it back into the bucket after playing with it for a bit. He had a rather disappointed look on his face.

Was I going to let this stand? Oh HELLS no!

So I tell him... no man, take it, keep it. They're meant for taking. You like it, you want it... go nuts! Keep that sucker. Not like there isn't more floating around caches in the city ToungeOut.

Not in those exact words, mind you... but you get the gist.

So he kept the chainmail ball BigSmile.

And let this be a note to everyone who seems to think otherwise... those chainmail balls, minimail balls, or nanomail balls (or any of my balls, really) are meant for everyone to take! Don't think you have to leave it in a cache. If you can think of ANY use for it, take it! I don't think a cache owner will mind you not trading something for it, since it's simply a signature item. You wanna collect 'em, try to find as many as you can. At least 360 of my balls are kicking around at this point Wink.

But yes... my rampant ball supply aside, it was a very fun event. The freeze at the end was fun. I ended up looking in the direction of another small boy. He held up really good, except he must have been cold as hell, since he had to shake some warmth into his arms a few times. Although I've learned something at this freeze event (which came in handy at a completely unrelated one later on)... try to avoid looking at another frozen person. I've found it makes me smile or have to choke back a laugh ToungeOut.

So all in all, good fun. Definitely had a blast, and hope there are more of 'em. Although we may have to come up with someplace other than the Forks... regular shoppers might start to notice a pattern or something over time.

Took: Several TB's (one of which I logged into here with this post, so that it gets credit for being here)
Left: Logbook entry and chainmail ball

Not sure how exactly, but I'll get there. The last flash mob was awesome, and I don't want to miss out on this one.
