The story goes like this. Every Christmas, Cache and Cary brags about his Christmas Ornaments. Specifically, he brags about two large blue Orbs that he likes to hang off of his vehicle to announce that he is ready for Christmas. This cache is in homage to Cache and Cary's Blue 'balls'. When you look at the map, you will note how fitting this location is for his homage. When you get to GZ, you will then have to deal with the gigantic task of retrieval. I mean, we're talking 12 feet into a member of the Ent family. Why so high? Well, spring floods might make these blue orbs wet and dirty. I'm sure Cache and Cary would prefer that his orbs stay high and dry. How to retrieve? You're either going to be climbing or using a TOTT. There are many natural wooden TOTTs around that can help you reach the tip. It might seem hard when you're there, but the with the right tool, you shouldn't find it hard at all. Now, when you find it, there are two, of course. The left one contains the log sheet. The right one will remain empty until Kabuthunk visits. We want him to fill the empty space with one of his calling chain-mail-balls. Congrats to Pa_Bottle on being the first cacher to grab Cache and Cary's Blue Balls Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.

I must admit that I'm relatively proud of myself for being able to fulfil my destiny here so early on. Course, Glacier_Ice having emailed me probably helped matters along . Armed with the knowledge of this cache and the Thanksgiving day off, I intended to tackle it today.

I didn't know how today would be, and knowing that this cache was almost 10km's away (much further than that following the roads), I decided against biking to it and drove over. After arriving, I hoofed it into the trees and was quite pleased with the virtual lack of “city” sounds in the area. For the most part, all I could hear was the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves, and the crunch of my shoes overtop of them . The leaves, not the birds . I soon found myself near ground zero, and at first started to head towards the wrong Ent. I quickly noticed the mistake, and began looking around in the correct direction. Having read the description at home, I knew of the winter-friendliness of the cache and kept my hunting in that manner (although I'm somewhat surprised the attribute itself isn't present on the cache... the description would seem to indicate it anyway). A few seconds later, and I had spotted the cache!

Although, despite being given the approximate height in the description, I'm mildly disappointed it wasn't at the top of the 'wrong' tree I had headed towards... which would be like... three times as high . I had brought a rope just in case I needed to toss it over a high branch and pull myself up, and then rappel down. Turns out I didn't need the rope in the slightest. Having grown up in the country, I saw this as barely a challenge. About 15 seconds later, I was level with the cache container. However, deciding that it'd be easiest to just... do everything from here, I made myself comfy and checked out the cache from beside it. Not being sure which side was which, I found the empty ball first. However, I quickly discovered that... a regular chainmail ball doesn't fit into it !

Not being sure what to do... since I had no minimail or micro regular chainmail balls with me... the latter at the bare minimum that would have fit. So, given I only had my usual three with me, I decided to put a micromail ball into the... ball, and attach a regular one alongside Cache and Cary's blue balls (thus making three balls I guess... two blue, and one silver ).

With that conundrum solved, I went about signing the logbook. However, it appears that this left ball is capable of closing properly any more. I don't think it was fully closed when I arrived, and I'm guessing it's due to the threading. No matter how straight I matched up the sides, it absolutely refused to tighten closed more than a couple of turns. In retrospect, I should have inspected the threads more and smoothed out any dents with a knife or something... but too late for that now .

With the cache being returned to normal, with the addition of not one, but TWO chainmail balls (different sizes, of course ), I headed out. Although, I found an old deer antler, which is always cool. However, given I have one at home (two actually... still attached to an entire deer skull that I found long ago, completely bare bone, bleached white), I left this one right near ground zero for if anyone else wants it.

But thanks for making such an interesting cache, and I'm glad I could be a part of it. Although I'm still mildly tempted to come back and place one of the aforementioned micro regular chainmail balls in there... but we'll see if I get around to that. Let me know actually... if it's specifically wanted, I'll make the second trip out .

Intriguing. Methinks I'll have to venture out here and see if I can't fulfill my destiny with this cache. Today is somewhat debatable due to the whole Thanksgiving and all, but tomorrow... hmm. And actually having read the cache description, I'm going to have to ponder what additional implements I might need with me.
