A night out and a chance to meet your local cache reviewer. The actual location has been set for The Round Table with things starting about 7 pm..

I am going to be passing thru Winnipeg on vacation and thought that it would be a good time to give the cachers in Manitoba an opportunity to meet up with their reviewer and put a face to the name. Maybe I'm not as crazy as the name implies. Hmmmmmm??

Now that we have things settled up I should let everyone know that the event is being held at The Round Table. The event will start about 7 pm although I'm likely to be there a wee bit earlier. I'm sure most of you already know where that is so if you have been holding off now is the time to indicate your intent to attend and prep your questions.

This is a very casual event where I will be available to meet with everyone, share a drink, some wings and answer any questions you may have on caches, guidelines and geocaching in general.

For those of you who collect geocoins I have a contest. I will have with me a 2008 Groundspeak Volunteer geocoin that I will give away to the person who can come closest to guessing the total number of caches I have published since I became a reviewer. That will include the time right up to the day of the event. Smile

Attended 7/31/2008 by Kabuthunk
SUCCESS! Not only did I actually manage to make it out to a geocaching event, but I had managed to find FIVE caches in about 40 minutes. And they weren't even close together either!

Aaaaand... I even managed to arrive at the event 5 minutes early BigSmile.

But after a surprisingly quick dinifra success after work today, I had set a goal for myself to find the remaining 4 caches needed to make this event find number 400 for me.

Hence, as I mentioned inside The Round Table... this 400 is dedicated to you onecrazycanadian! Not only have I really wanted to meet the man that published 3 of my 4 geocaches, but it's been forever since I've been able to make it to an event cache. Typically, something always comes up that hinders my being able to attend. I'm very glad that the event I was capable of attending was not only the one in which I met a cache reviewer, but I was also able to place that event at find #400 BigSmile.

And for the record, I had always thought that you were male, crazycanadian ToungeOut.

So as I said, it was great to meet everyone there! I saw many old faces, and a few new ones to boot. Although, it was a little confusing at first. I started out gathering with several other geocachers in the 'lounge' area, since we were scheduled to get the main room at 7:00pm. Upon arriving, I learned that the 7:00pm had been upgraded to 8:00pm for some arbritrary reason. When 8:00pm rolled around... nothing happened. We actually only got the main room at about 9:00pm.

Hey Round Table... you may want to consider looking into the definition of a reservation. As in... the direct definition in the dictionary. Yeah... do what it say.

But that aside, while we were in the lounge area, we got to me onecrazycanadian. I had no clue that several cachers thought you were a woman... but you always struck me as a guy. Eh, whatever. A number of questions back and forth, and eventually we found our way into the main room. The seating arrangement there was actually really well thought out. It had everyone seated around essentially a "U" shaped table arrangement, and allowed onecrazycanadian to go along the inside of it and individually meet with every one of us. So it was great to have some one-on-one chatting Smile.

And with your comment about helping newer cachers by making our logs more detailed about what we like and don't like... I'll give it my best, but you may need to help me out on that one. I need you to request that Groundspeak increase the log limit to more than 4000 characters. I keep running out of space as-is, so if you can get 'em to bump it up to like... 5000 or so, I might be able to be more thorough with my vague, sparse logs ToungeOut. Maybe push for somewhere between 6000 to 8000 to be safe though. On a few logs, I've had to chop out some pretty big paragraphs.

And in reply to your comment Dani... no. Mules will fly before I deliberately set out to shrink my log size ToungeOut. Although if it makes you feel any better, the four cache logs prior to this one are shorter than normal, since I was more 'power caching' instead of kinda... taking in the entire experience. I still did... just less ToungeOut.

So yeah... much fun, and we may one day in the next several months the true 'geocaching' identity of onecrazycanadian! Although... an inadvertant hint that he left that I think only myself and a few others overheard may have given things away.

I've emailed you my guess onecrazycanadian. Let me know if I hit the nail on the head. And again... if I was successful, you're secret's safe with me Smile. If I'm incorrect... well, we'll find out sometime in the future. And thanks again for all the advice and inside information on what happens behind the scenes. Very informative. Your stories about bad logs that you've rejected were also quite entertaining BigSmile.

Took: Some quesadilla
Left: Travelbug, signature on Visa slip, and the limited edition "Macro chainmail ball with a twist"

Will Attend 7/30/2008 by Kabuthunk
Awright... unless something ridiculously unexpected comes up, I should be there BigSmile.

I'll make an attempt to head there after work. Can't guarantee it unfortunately, but I'll see what I can do.
