Attended 3/5/2008 by Kabuthunk
WOOH! I was able to make the birthday event! Added bonus... I got some of the cake that I COMPLETELY forgot was going to be there BigSmile.

It was a little iffy as to whether we would either a) have enough time, or b) be awake enough to come to the event today. As fate would have it, today my fiancee and I had to attend a marriage prep class (mandatory to get married in our church... bah). It always seems as though whenever there is an event (or any gathering that's entertaining), some unskippable aspect of life decides that it needs to schedule itself at the exact same time. Today was no different.

HOWEVER... the fact that the event was being held at a restaurant/pub called "The Round Table"... well I just HAD to attend somehow!

Wearing chainmail armour, of course ToungeOut.

After the marriage prep class ended (at about 9:20pm or so, a little earlier than anticipated) my fiancee and I quickly bolted home, grabbed the chainmail, and headed for the gathering. I think that only one person saw me (aside from the waitresses) as we entered the establishment. I heard a woman in the pub area (or what I thought was the pub area, anyway... whatever's immediately to the left right when you enter) say to her friends as I walked by that entrance "Hey, there's a guy out there wearing armour". Several seconds later, the waitress led us to the geocache event, and I doubt any of the other non-geocaching patrons got a look at me.

At last we were at the event. After a quick round of everyone in the room gasping in amazement (or horror... I'm not sure which ToungeOut) at the chainmail I was wearing (GG56 got a few pics of it), things settled down to random chatting. I gave the event chainmail ball to *butterfly*, as she had hear heart set on that particular one (don't worry GG56... next specialty event ball is yours Smile. *butterfly* had also challanged me to make a chainmail butterfly at one point or another... so I also gave her my attempt at said challange.

After some chatting, my fiancee and I ordered some food. By the way... the pickerel isn't too shabby here. It's not like when camping, and it came out of the lake 20 minutes prior to eating it... but it was decent Smile. I was a bit worried that we wouldn't be able to order anything that late, but apparently it wasn't a problem. Although, I've gotta mental note that place in general. Not bad food, wing specials were relatively regular it seems (although we came in too late for that), and I loved the medival atmosphere of the place. It coulda used a big fire burning in a hearth, but that's just getting picky ToungeOut.

And so the chatting continued. 1Queenand4Jokers (the Queen portion that was there, anyway) was particularily interested in it (as well as *butterfly* and GG56 of course, but I knew they were interested in chainmail from previous events), and asked many questions about it's making, how long it took, etc. For the record, the shirt and headpiece were all hand-coiled and cut 16-gauge galvanized steel wire, and the scales I had to buy online. Vague ballpark of about 250 hours of work for both the shirt and headpiece combined.

But I digress... more random chatting with the remaining cachers (since a fair number had already left by this point), and we packed it in for the day. My fiancee and I were both tired, and needed some sleep.

But oh, if only I had more balls (MHz has them, last I saw). I was tempted when we were leaving to jump into the main non-geocaching dining room, scream out "FREEEEDOOOOOM!" or "SPARTAAAAAAAA!", and then run out again. When I brought this up with Dani, we debated whether anyone would realize the Spartans didn't wear chainmail, or whether they would just be dumbfounded looking at the weirdo in the chainmail ToungeOut.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry, and limited edition scalemail ball (claimed with *butterfly*, who called dibs on it)

Ok, I won't make this a "will attend", since I can't guarantee anything... but I'll try to show up.

When does the place close? Pretty much the dead earliest I would be capable of arriving is 10:00pm :{

But yes... should there be a chance of the place still being open, I'll try my best to get there Smile.

Knights of the round table, eh?

*shifty eyes*

I'll see what I can do to get here. I can't guarantee I'll be able to make it (hence the 'note' instead of 'will attend' at the moment). Once things become more certain, I'll post a 'will attend' or another note indicating why not.

Wait, wait... no... crap.

AAAAAARRRGGHHH.

Why must the timing never work out. Just realized that Wednesday nights are a Marriage Prep course that I have to take... and I've got 5 of 'em left. Unfortunately, I'll be COMPLETELY unavailable this Wednesday Frown. If there was ONE event in which I could have justifiably worn all of my chainmail to... this would have been it.

*sigh* Looks like it wasn't meant to be Frown.
