Found it 8/13/2008 by Kabuthunk
I'm quite glad that I found this cache today. I was feeling a bit dejected due to an epic failure earlier, I was hankering very much for a find to bring my spirits back up again.

After the aformentioned DNF, I ended up just... driving around, with not particular destination in mind. I had to pick up my wife at Red River College in about 2 hours, and didn't really want to go home. So I just... drove. After a while, I ended up in this area of town, and remembered that a friend lived very close to this cache, and had remembered that a cache (ie: this one) was close to where he lived.

Swinging into the parking spot I usually use when visiting him, I walked in the opposite direction into the park. A very nice park, I might add. Some might argue a bit TOO nice, since when I was leaving, I saw a homeless guy making one of the park benches his sleeping quarters. Seeing as he appeared to be asleep, I gave him a wide bearth when walking by to avoid waking him.

But that was after finding the cache. On the way TO the cache, I found myself on the wrong side of the river. And as tempting as it would be to try to cross over that dam-looking thing by Grant's Old Mill, I figured that would probably be a most unwise thing to do ToungeOut.

Speaking of this Old Mill... is this like... a store or something? There's a sign that says it's open at whatever time, but it was long-since closed by the time I got there. Is this just a pioneer-type pseudo-museum type thing, or a store, or a bar, or what's inside of there? Seems like a weird place to have... well... anything, really. And actually, while I'm on the subject, is there any source of information (other than entering that Mill when it's open... that being when I'm at work) as to what the mill was for, and if there's any history behind it? I'm kinda curious about it now.

But anyway, taking the extra few minutes to circle over the bridge and to the other side, I found myself finally getting closer than 20 meters from the cache. After spending about 15 minutes looking for the cache, I resorted to Cachemate to give me the cache description, and the hint. The description actually helped somewhat, as it gave me an idea of the cache's shape, but the hint was more along the lines of "well no kidding, sherlock" types of things. I tried using my mini Mag-lite, but quickly learned that the batteries in it were almost dead.

Mental note: get new AA batteries for flashlight.

I crawled my way back and forth over the area, searching in all manners of crevace. Not particularly wanting to shove my hand into holes filled with spider-webs, I used a stick to clear the way a few times when I wanted to investigate closer with my hands. Still no such luck. After emerging to take a bit of a break, the corner of the cache container caught my eye! SUCCESS! After the last DNF, I was getting worried I'd have to log another one in a row! Thankfully, the cache was found, and I left a bit happier than when I had arrived Smile. Although, it looks like there's two logbooks of sorts happening in there. There's the regular logbook, and then there's a printout of the geocaching.com page that people have been signing the back of as well. Seeing as the logbook had "Log Book" printed on the front, I sighed that one and put everything back in the cache.

Thanks for giving me a much-needed find in a time when I craved it the most Smile.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and chainmail ball
