This cache is located within a scenic and serene natural grass prairie park. Cache is a nalgene water container that is hidden from plain view. Given the small size, there is room for pencil and log book only.

This is a great scenic walk in natural prairie grass and light forest. A return to a time and place where I grew up, and thus the theme - "childhood memories". Find the geocache to log a childhood memory or two of your own! Given the size of the cache container, please do not leave any tradeables. Log entries only. Thank you!

Some more information to add to the pleasure of your trip.....in 1968 a local sub-committee of the International Biological Program surveyed Manitoba for native prairie plant communities. Of more than 60 sites that were researched, only four were found uncultivated. Ironically, one of the largest undisturbed sites was discovered in this residential area of Winnipeg! This City of Winnipeg nature park contains over 150 different species of grasses and wildflowers in a 32 acre site.

There is an interpretive centre with nearby parking which opens annually with the bloom of the Crocus, Manitoba's Provincial flower. Spring hours are Sunday 10AM-5PM and July-August everyday from 10AM-5PM.

Found it 4/1/2007 by Kabuthunk
HURRAH! Despite it raining out at the time, I had made up my mind that this weekend, I would attempt to tackle West Stevo's cache that had eluded me the first time. Well... eluded might be the wrong term, but I can't think of a single word for "thought I found the remnants of the old, and thusly replaced it with a new, and logged it as a find, only to find out that the old WAS still there, but moved, thusly chaning the find to a simple note".

So yes... previous posts on this cache have been notes up until this point. I had it set in my mind that I would refuse to log this cache as found (despite Stevo's offer to let me count it as found quite a while back... thanks for the offer though Smile) until I had found the ORIGINAL cache.

And it is now in which I can obtain my find. I headed out to this cache once again and parked in ye old parking spot I did the past few times. I was hoping that the rain would have also melted most of the snow that might still be covering the original. From what I had been told, it was at ground-level. I had a vague idea as to where it was from talking with the last person to have found it at the last Pub Nite gathering, as well as communications with Stevo himself.

Walking the path to this area, there wasn't much snow on the way, so I was hopeful. However, right by the entrance to the tree-y area, there seemed to be quite a bit. My heart sank a bit, thinking I'd have to be digging through slushy snow... but it turns out it was ONLY by the entrance. There was virtually no snow once you got over that drift.

"Over" being a rather flexible term in this case. More like half-over, half-through. Luckly, not much snow got in my shoes and I could easily shake it out ToungeOut. It wasn't long before I spotted something that looked like it might have been a cache. Crouching down, I discovered that I was correct. THE ORIGINAL HAS BEEN FOUND AGAIN! However, since the 'new' cache was given a chainmail ball quite a while ago, I didn't really see a need to put another one in here, as it's still the same cache, technically. I DID however give this one a micromail ball, so that it wouldn't feel completely left out ToungeOut.

Also, I happened to not have a single full-sized chainmail ball on me at the time, but that's completely besides the point ToungeOut.

But yes... wrote a tiny tale in the original logbook and hid it a little bit better (ie: gave it some natural covering so that it wouldn't be spotted so immediately next time).

West Stevo... if you want, I've snagged the coordinates of the original cache. Contact me if you want 'em. I'm not sure if you want me to post them here, or if you want to gather the original, and turn it into "Childhood Memories II" somewhere else or something. Lemme know if you want 'em.

I also checked on the 'new' Childhood Memories. Still sitting in it's new location, still good to go. And once again, all is well Smile.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and micromail ball

Weird. Well, I checked back there, and the 'new' cache is still sitting there. Coords should still be fairly accurate. Was unable to locate the 'old' cache that was recently found though. The original time I went through, I must have found a different container that had some mangled paper in it... I dunno. Will change my original 'find' on this cache to a 'note' however, since I didn't find the 'old' cache, it would appear. Once it's decided on which cache should stay, and where it goes, I'll see if I need to make another trip out to re-find it, or yeah... see what happens.

In either case... new cache is still in it's hiding place. However, since the original hiding spot is nigh-unuseable, I'm thinking that whoever can locate both the old and the new cache should combine them and put them in either the new location (thus, we can leave the coords), or in the mystery current location (at which point we need coords changed on the page).

WOOH! Well, it's a win-win type situation here. WestStevo sent me out to see if I can locate what happened with the other cache.

EDIT: Looks like I didn't actually locate the original cache, but some random garbage container that had potential to have been a cache, that had mangled paper in it. Changed this log to a note for now as a result.

The SECOND 'win', is such that WestStevo sent me out with a replacement cache should something have befallen the previous one. Hence... the new cache is in place, but in a slightly different place. The new coordinates will be sent to WestStevo to be modified into there, so it'll hopefully be up in a day or so. As well, I left a chainmail ball in memory of this cache's fallen comrade. New coords will be N49 53.462, W97 16.326... should someone want to attempt if WestStevo isn't able to check his email for a bit or something weird.

Actually, there was a kinda third win as well in here. As I was wandering towards the cache site initially, a family of four deer wandered into the bushy area. I must be good around animals, because they didn't even seem nervous. One of them was actually about 20 feet away from me for a while. We looked at eachother for about 30 seconds or so before he slowly trotted off, following the rest of the pack. Dang, seriously wish I had a camera. This cache has officially prompted me to try to find a way to clip my camera to the other side of my cache-huntin' bag (opposite side from the GPs... might even out the weight at least then :P).

Took: Nothing
Left: New cache, cache location, and chainmail ball contained inside said aformentioned cache (see cache... I mean profile. Eh, both will do).
