Park was in need of a cache, so we found a nice little spot for it.

This is one of many parks in the St James area, however this one did not yet have a cache placed in it. Cache container is a 35 mm camoed container. Please make sure to re-hide it as you found it. Careful for muggles as there is a park nearby as well as peoples yards.

***Congrats to Cache_Bandicoot & Antihiro for getting the FTF***

Aaaahahahaa... at long last. In spite of my previous false find (now changed to DNF), I've finally managed to clear this one up once and for all. For the past few weeks, I've been wanting to make another swing out to this side of the city in order to get this pesky, persistent DNF off my back. However, either other obligations always seem to come up, or I don't have enough time to make it way out here, or some other petty annoyance hinders my attempt at this cache. But not today!

For what seems like the first time in a very long time, we actually had nothing specifically planned today. No gatherings anywhere, no invitations, just... a day off. It seems like it's been months since that's happened ToungeOut. Heck, even during the first half of the day we didn't get a single phonecall... it's been awesome! The reason for this however was likely the vast amount of rain that was pouring down through the entire morning. But am I going to let a little bit of rain stop me? Hell no! Asking my wife if she wanted to go for a ride to keep me company (and assumingly read in the car while I'm searching), she was up for it, and out we went.

One vaguely long drive later, and we found ourselves nearing the park. After a little bit of zig-zagging around in the residential zones (missed my turn several times), we eventually found ourselves in familiar territory. Well... familiar to me, anyway. I don't think my wife was here for any of the previous visits. Well in either case, given it was still drizzling out (although thankfully the out-and-out rain had all but disappeared), my wife predictably stayed in the car ToungeOut. So trekking off on my own, I headed towards the oh-so-familiar trees that I've been hunting around multiple times now. Today however, there seemed to be no sign of the fake cache anywhere.

Dang... was hoping to retrieve my chainmail ball from it so I could put it into an actual cache Frown.

Oh well, no great loss. Seeing as the fake cache had vanished, I proceeded to follow a bit of help that I had requested by a previous cache finder. Having been given the general direction from the posted coordinates to look, I headed off with my eyes peeled. Lo and behold, approximately 17 meters East from the posted coordinates, the cache suddenly caught my eye. Significantly better hidden than the previous fake cache (although in all honesty, the only way that fake cache could have been more obvious is if it had a bright, flashing light on it), the type of cache container definitely confirmed that I had found the correct one this time. HURRAH BigSmile! At long last, this cache that's way out of the way for me has finally been defeated! I've added the coordinates that my GPS has for this cache container to this log in case others have the same problems I had.

But that aside, it was nice to make another trip out to this park. If I were to live in the area, I could definitely see me being the type of person who would set up an outdoor chess board table and just be playing there on a nice sunny day Smile. I'll have to ask my friend if he ever heads over here... it IS a pretty nice park, kinda hidden from the major streets.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and micromail ball

Ahh... at long last geocache, you are mine! And man, either this cache has some poltergeists that are bored out of their mind, or this cache has migrated since I was last here. But more on that later. I had today booked off long ago, for the purposes of having a nice, 4-day weekend. The original plan was to go camping, but as it turns out, the forecast was for nothing but rain all weekend where I had wanted to go (Norris Lake). So, rather than spend 72+ hours inside a small tent, listening to it get pounded by rain (or however long the rain would be throughout all weekend), I decided to break up the weekend somewhat doing a few random things. Prepare my next few geocache placements, work on my website, and of course... geocache in general. Due to how far away this cache is from my home, I rarely have the opportunity to tackle it. In fact, up until today, my last trip was the first time I had a chance to conveniently go after it.

Today wasn't particularly convenient for location, but given I had the entire day to kill, I figured I'd make a special trip out to this area of town to attempt to dinifra this sucker into the ground. And thus, my quest for the DNF resolution attempt began. Hopping into the car this morning, I headed Westward down the highways. Of course, just after I leave I realized that I had forgotten my hiking stick that I was planning to bring with me. If the cache was out of easy reach, I was planning on using said hiking stick to access it. So since I had gone far enough that I didn't want to turn around, I figured I'd try to find maybe a branch or something in the area if needed.

One drive later, and I find myself in a familiar parking spot. Hopping out of the car, I head into the park. Thankfully, since it was only about 2:30pm at this point, the park was still empty with everyone either being in school or at work. Excellent... I was worried that aspect would cause me problems BigSmile. Having the park to myself, I walked onwards in the general direction of where I had been hunting oh-so-diligently last time. While I was walking, I grabbed my GPS and changed it from 'follow road' to instead go directly to the cache. As I changed that and put my GPS back into its clip, I looked up... and there was the cache, right immediately in front of me.

What. The. Hell. I SWEAR that the cache wasn't located there when I had first hunted for it. In all honesty, placed where it currently is, I'm surprised it hasn't gone missing within the first day of it being placed! The cache owner may want to check on this placement at one point or another, really. But one way or another, the cache was most certainly not placed there when I showed up on June 26th.

In either case, with the cache abruptly and unexpectedly found, I quickly signed the sheet inside (it looks like the original logbook may have gone missing too... there was only two other names on the paper. Perhaps local kids are removing it and returning it at random?) One chainmail ball later, and I replaced the cache container as I found it.

EDIT: Unless of course some jerk goes and places a fake cache there... can't imagine why, maybe because they couldn't accept the idea of taking a DNF or something. Well shoot... I actually had a fair amount of time I could have looked around there that day. Bah... ok, I'm not one to accept a fake "found it". It was certainly not a 35mm film canister that I found, so I'm changing this log to a DNF (and slicing out some of the log... stupid maximum log length), and will return yet again for another attempt.

Oh... this cache. This cache put up a fight and a half, and ended up successfully hiding from me. But not from lack of me trying! After having found a handful of other caches today, I was feeling pretty confident. Thus, despite being completely unfamiliar with the area, and having barely more than half an hour to work with, I decided to try for one more cache before needing to be elsewhere in the area.

First impressions? Gotta say, this cache isn't exactly the easiest thing on earth to find! From the last cache, my GPS had me zig-zagging all over the place before I eventually arrived at the opening to the park. I imagine it might have been significantly more straight-forward from another direction, but from the West, it was all over the place. And it's a really big park, too! Usually parks I thought in the middle of residential zones tend to be fairly small... but this guy had all kinds of room. Albeit a decent portion close to ground zero was covered with water ToungeOut.

But as I got out of the car... IT began. All at once, I heard the distinct sound of... what in the world is that?!? Some kind of... annoying childs toy that plays a loop of about 15 seconds of the same tune over and over again? Well, no problem... if its a kids toy, I imagine the parents will have them turn it off or destroy it after a while. I can't imagine anyone actually enjoying that 8-bit sounding 15 seconds of child-like melody. But no... after I was at the coordinates for about 5 minutes, the sound was still going. In fact... wait... was it MOVING?!? I'd swear it sounded like it was maybe a yard or two off to the West, but now it seemed to be coming from the Southwest, maybe a bit further away! Very peculiar... but maybe I was just mistaken initially. Still, that same 15 seconds droned on over and over and over again.

Attempting to ignore it, I began the hunt. There seemed to be... very few places at ground zero where a cache could conceivably hide. In the span of about 10 minutes, I had scoured the bottom 6 feet of anything near ground zero, and had expanded my search out to about 10 meters away.

And then the droning of the looping music penetrated my concentration. This time, directly to the South! What the hell?!? And then it struck me... an ice-cream truck. Those things still exist?!? I thought I caught a glimpse of it at one point on one of the residential roads, but it was otherwise always out of sight. Always there, always chiming away. Seriously, why are they using a tune that sounds like it belongs on a very early NES edutainment game? It's 2010! Upgrade that sound already! Have more than like... 6 notes in it! Have a melody of some sort! My god, the driver of that vehicle must be bat@#*% insane by now! I can't possibly fathom having to listen to those same 15 seconds over and over again for hours on end... I'm pretty sure I'd find a place to drive it off a cliff ToungeOut.

But... putting that aside yet again, I continued my search for another 30 minutes. I'm REALLY glad the park was empty, because otherwise I'd have likely looked strange standing there wandering around for the better part of an hour. Still... nothing sprung out at me. I had read the previous logs and cache description in my palm pilot... nothing helped. Apparently, I need my own tracama to have shown up ToungeOut.

But alas, after 40 minutes of searching and listening to the ice-cream truck (I swear that melody has penetrated my very soul. I don't think I could ever approach another ice-cream truck again without going into convulsions ToungeOut), I decided to call it quits, being somewhat late already to meet with friends.

Another time cache! Another time.
