A tribute to one of the nicest person I've met and with whom I've had countless hours of fun caching from sunset to sunrise. This two parts cache consists of a mystery first stage where you can find the map to the final stage. The first stage is a micro container. Click on "coordinates" to find them. Dani likes to collect sunset postcards. She has over 200 on her site! You can leave one for her in the final cache. I left one from Louisiana. Go get it danio! This cache was created to add to the number of QUALITY caches hidden in Manitoba. It is an official cache in the MBGA Cache Splash event. Category 24: Cacher Tribute themed cache. We meet at last... second stage of this geocache . Myself and my friend Night-Red had been driving here and there all over the place geocaching today... and I felt once again adventurous enough to go after the second half of Dani's Sunset Splash. Now that it had been replaced, there was a good chance we'd actually find it this time . Also, the fact that it was still day out helped too. It's the weekend, the malls are still open for another few hours... most of the brats kids that we spotted in the park last time should still be loitering spending time at the mall, so I wasn't too worried about the bystander levels this time around.

However... upon heading towards the second coordinates, I DID see something interesting. There was no people around for the entire time (thankfully), but the exact same house that was having the house-party last time I attempted this cache had it's fence COMPLETELY destroyed. Well... it was still KINDA standing, but that's because it was leaning against his pool (or whatever relatively large structure he had immediately behind the fence). But yeah... torn apart, boards ripped loose, leaning over... just a wreck. For the next while (and even now), I'm wondering if it was caused during that same party that we walked by the last time we were here .

Regardless... we continued onwards towards the coordinates. I had a fairly good idea as to it's approximate location, and the most logical place it could be hiding... and it turns out I was correct. About 5 seconds later, the cache was in my hot little hands, and I was pouring through the contents.

Well... not literally... as that would require my body to liquify... at which point I'm pretty sure I'd be in no condition to sign the logbook, let alone geocache further .

But yes... a geocache we did finally find. Coincidentally... this Dani-based geocache was the very last geocache in my Dani-radius for the longest time. However, just a few days ago, it appears another geocache has appeared inside said radius .

But thanks for the interesting adventure, and finally being able to achieve a successful dinifra, as well as see the aftermath of some rampant destruction against some poor guy's fence . Personally, if I were the person living there, I'd at LEAST find something to prop up the fence to stop it from leaning against my pool/house/shack/whatever. I mean seriously... a full fence ain't exactly light, and if it's bent over and slanty, said brats kids might consider playing on it, doing more damage, and running around in your yard at night. But hey... I'm pessimistic .

Also appears that I'm the first and currently only signature in the replacement logbook. Ooohh... a clean, uninked logbook (well... except for the words "replacement logbook" inside) for me to mark up .

Wasn't able to find stage two on this venture . After being at a friend's BBQ near the Mint, I talked my roommate into attempting a geocache with me (I've been wanting to drop off that geocoin for a bit now). Feeling 'adventurous', we decided to tackle the second half of Dani's Sunset Splash.

At 11:30 at night.

Unfortunately for us, it appears that the park can be quite... umm... active with miniature packs of kids wandering around in the dark drinking... let's just say something that they probably shouldn't be allowed to with how old they looked . And then there was also a house party happening in one of the residential lots nearby... but they had floodlights pointing in towards their yard, so I doubted they were able to see us regardless.

But... we searched around for about 10 minutes and couldn't find a thing. Partway into our search, one of said random park-at-night dwelling kids came up and asked what we were doing. My roommate covered the bases to an extent while I continued to search (since I didn't even hear him talking to the kid for a few minutes of searching).

But... perhaps I wrote down the coordinates wrong or something, but I couldn't find hide nor hair of the cache. But then again, it was also damn near pitch black, and we had a mag-light to work with (didn't want to put on the head lamp, as that would just attract even more attention).

Perhaps a visit during the day is in order. Hopefully I'll get a chance sometime soon.

WOOH! Part one has been discovered! Went there with several friends of mine (mainly non-geocachers, but I'm working on changing that ) to see if we could have a successful dinifra. Well... it was a partial success, anyway. Found stage 1, but stage 2 was somewhat out of the way, and the others (bah... their non-geocaching nature showed here ) didn't want to go after it.

Hence... I will likely be wandering over to stage 2 on my own sometime in the near future. Then again, it started pouring out before we could get too terribly far from here, so I didn't expect non-geocachers to want to tromp through the rain for a cache like I would have .

I shall return for the rest!

Coulda sworn that I had figured out the coords to the first stage correctly, but we were unable to find any kind of container, or anything really, at the coords that I came up with. I think we had the right general vicinity, but must have gotten one or several numbers incorrect.

However, in going with the thought that we only had one number incorrect, we started with the coords that I had figured out, then walked a path directly East and West from there, checking anything suitable along that line for a cache. This however turned up nothing. We then walked a path straight North and South from the coords I had, and again, turned up nothing (well... significantly more hiding spots, but no cache container in any of them ). And then we just kinda started searching around in general, looking for anything vaguely suitable to hold a micro container. Alas, luck was not with us today.

I'll have to give another attempt at deciphering the coords to stage one, and will dinifra this sucker sometime in the near future.
