I recently found a cache archived in 2006. Last found by bergmannfamily a year later, in 2007. It was a polarbeardiggers cache. Aside from moldy log everything was fine. New home, new log, hidden just like before.

While riding home, this Cub Scout song came to mind.

Polarbeardiggers leaned over the gas tank,
The height of its contents to see.
He lit up a match to see better,
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me.

Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me.

Polarbeardiggers went down to the river
to have a short swim before tea
along came a school of Piranhas
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me

Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me.

Polarbeardiggers climbed up to the top of
a tree to find where we could be
along came a big bolt of lightning
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me

Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me.

Polarbeardiggers went down to the basement
to find what the gas smell could be
he turned on the light to see better
Oh Bring back Polarbeardiggers to me

Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me.

Polarbeardiggers went hiking one Sunday
to scout out a trail you see
he stumbled across a big Grizzly
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me

Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me.

Polarbeardiggers was building a campfire
to help us with cahes you see
Lizardo knocked over some naphtha
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me

Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me.

Polarbeardiggers was cooking our supper
to feed us at the Mega Event
he mistook some arsenic for sugar
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me

Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me.

Polarbeardiggers went camping one weekend
at night he went out for a pee
He startled the bear in the outhouse
oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me

Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me.

Polarbeardiggers went hiking by moonlight
to check out the North star you see
along came a bright flying saucer
Oh bring back Polarbeardiggers to me

This one is for you PBD. I hope one day you will sign the log. You are looking for a small cammo film container. BYOP

Found it 5/26/2010 by Kabuthunk
I must admit, this was quite the adventure. Also, given it's extraordinarily rare that I'll bother to attempt a FTF, I never realized how many cachers tend to attempt FTF's nowadays. Evidently... lots.

I was sitting at home, poking around on the computer, just generally killing time for the evening. Wandering over to my email, I noticed that there were several emails for newly placed geocaches. Intrigued, I clicked on one of them at random, since the emails had come in not too long ago (I don't get cellphone notifications for new caches, since I'm on a pay-as-you-go account, and it's something ridiculous like 30 cents per incoming SMS message). Typically, these will be several kilometers away, and will have been posted days ago. These however were a lot more recent as I said, and the one that I had clicked showed me at 0.8km away! Sweet merciful McGillicuddy, that's close! It took all of maybe 2 seconds for me to decide to grab my geocaching kit and head out the door.

Seeing as it was less than a kilometer away (600 meters and change when I was outside the apartment), I figured I would just hoof it there. I had a vague hope that other geocachers would be too tired to bother going after it (yeah, THAT turned out to be a bit off), but seeing as how it was basically surrounded by residential neighbourhoods, I figured the odds of me getting FTF were somewhat slim. But there's always hope. During my jog there, I had passed some other random jogger going the opposite direction. I have no clue if that was another geocacher or not, but at the time I figured it may well have been, and if so... it's quite likely that the cache was already found.

Things got more intriguing as I neared the area, and saw flashlights amongst the trees. Sure enough... more geocachers. However, everyone there had said that they hadn't yet found the cache! Unfortunately, I can't remember the names of all the geocachers that were present since I'm terrible with remembering names... but I think there was 5 or 6 of us hunting by the end. Pulling out my head-lamp, I began to scour the trees and bushes, top to bottom. Others continued the search, or took breaks to chat. Not long after the hunting began, a truck for the Winnipeg Fire Department showed up! This threw me off a bit, but by the time I noticed them, several other cachers (not sure who) had spoken with them, assumingly explaining what was going on. I thought I heard someone mention that that WAS another geocacher, but I could easily be mistaken. In either case, with that potential problem out of the way, the search continued. I hunted around the various plantlife within a 10 meter radius of the area, to no avail. But after quite a while of looking, luck turned out to be with me! Eventually I wandered into the right area, and happened to spot the cache container!

Being all cocky about being the first to find (or so I thought), I all proudly proclaimed "FTF!!!", and held out the container. Opening it up, much to my surprise there was not one, but SEVERAL logs already signed! Several had found it before our group got there, and not only that but Glacier_Ice had found it WHILE we were there. In the end, I think I was fifth to find (still FTF technically! ToungeOut). It turns out that Glacier_Ice had found it, signed it, and then put it back before I had wandered into the right area.

By the way, sorry about holding it out and not letting others make the find. I normally would do that, but I kinda got caught up in the whole FTF thing ToungeOut.

In either case, it was an interesting adventure hunting for the cache, and having fun with other cachers. Extremely rare that I run into them 'in the field' so to speak, but apparently I've got to attempt first to finds to make it happen ToungeOut.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and limited edition blackened steel micromail ball.

Note: Posting my log already, since it seems others are starting to log theirs before the actual FTF.
