Team Sky

*red tailed hawk sound*

A green and yellow logo that resembles an angular letter S, on a diamond shaped plate, dangling in front of a window. The Team Sky logo.

The Team Sky logo, an angular letter S with greenish yellow edging, on a diamond shaped emblem. Team Sky screech! It's dangling, in the sky, from a wooden stick, in front of a curtained window.

The other side of the emblem, with green block letters saying Team Sky, and a short loop of string attached at the top left of the horozontal diamond. It's shown on a table to display it horozontally.
Team Sky *screech*!

To expand the sky... whatever that means! If you're a fan of MandJTV (Michael Groth media) (Team Sky playlist (YT) specifically), you will be well familiar with this symbol. Or Pokémon in general, there's a good chance that you've heard of Team Sky. This series is SO hilarious, and I've been watching it since it began in 2021. Now, they've always had tshirts for sale, but I just couldn't justify buying one, yet. I do however have no qualms telling others they should buy stuff (MandJTV merch), and will be doing so myself in the future. But I've been wanting their logo, to join Team Sky, ever since they turned good (canonically, they started as an evil team, then turned good). And y'know, it's currently too painful to buy a tshirt that, and no keychains or such are available. And so, I set out to make my own, not a keychain, but a logo that I can hang on the wall.

And so, I started by tracing the logo outline from an image on my phone screen, cutting that out, putting that onto some hardboard, cutting THAT out, and that gave me a diamond shape to work with. With some careful measuring and linework, we planned the build. I'd originally tried just painting the hardboard, but that material is too difficult to work with directly, so several layers of spray varnish later, and we had a smooth, non-porous surface to work with. From here, we used our template and masking tape to draw sharp, straight lines, filled in the yellow, varnished it all with a few layers of that green-tinted varnish from the Staff of Technology project to green up the yellow a bit, and coated that with a thick layer of nailpolish topcoat to smooth the paint all over. With that, the first side was complete!

For side two, we used an old capital letter stencil to make the initial letter positions and sizes, to make sure everything was uniform, and then went in after with a fine paintbrush to clean up the letters and sharpen the corners. A simple task, after which we varnished this side as well. Once that was done, we touched up the edges, making straight yellow lines along the edges of the Team Sky logo side, and black along the text side. Drilling a tiny hole, we used a stainless steel earring hook to make a loop to dangle it from, finding where to put it so it hangs correctly (and make the tip of the wire barbed, to keep it from coming out), and then just to give everything a smooth, brush-free surface, we varnish-dipped the whole thing, daubed away the excess varnish at the bottom corner and edges, after which it dried smooth as glass. Team Sky *screech*!
