And on the same day as my first cache in Saskatchewan, I find my first cache in Alberta. Only one more province (which I'm hoping I'll be able to find on this vacation trip... if not, another time), and I'll have found a cache in all the Western provinces. Excluding the territories, unfortunately. And although technically I have a cache logged in B.C., that's only because it was a travelling cache in mid-transit, passing through Manitoba when I logged it .

But... on with this cache. I was actually a bit surprised to find myself still caching today. Ever since after work Friday, my wife and I have been on the road on a trip to visit my brother (who was the one that planted this cache... THANKS MAN!). Although we stayed a night in Regina to break up the trip, it's still a 7 someodd hour drive on day 2. Thus, when we arrived at my brother's place in Calgary, we were WIPED. For several hours, we basically just crashed, relaxed, and chatted it up. However... I still had some energy stirring. It took a bit of convincing, but I managed to get the four of us (PurpleMonkeyDishwasher, GirlWithNoName, my wife, and I) walking around outside at about 9:30pm (still getting used to using local time zone). However, the cache is quite close to where they live, so once I got us all outside, it only took a scant few minutes of walking until we were nearing the coordinates.

At first, PMD and GWNN were going to play the 'hot, cold' game with me... but given it was quite dark and somewhat buggy in the area, GWNN and my wife stayed off to the side, while PMD and I went in for the hunt. And, given that it's been quite a long time since PMD has found the cache himself, the foliage of the area had apparently changed quite a bit. So at this point, it was no longer 'watch Kabuthunk try to find it, and toss him hints', but 'crap, where is it, we've both gotta look for this thing' . PMD's benifit however is that he knew what the cache container looked like... which was probably quite useful, since it was pitch black in there. We had head-lamps on, mind you... but that's still a very inky blackness, turned into a ton of shadows by our headlamps (an experience we'd repeat soon after finding this when we took a horribly wrong path to try to find a different cache none of us have located before). Several minutes into the search, PMD made the find, and assisted me with locating it since I had been about 5 feet away. In the daytime this wouldn't have been nearly so difficult, but at night... even being 2 feet away is enough to completely miss it.

We gave the cache a good look-over to have this count as pseudo-maintenance while there. The logbook is dry, the contents are fine, and the cache now contains my signature chainmail ball and a Geocoin I brought here from Manitoba (been in Manitoba way too long... let's let it wander around these parts a bit).

All in all, thanks for placing the cache, man. Can't go wrong with a nice evening walk with my bro and our significant others while geocaching . Definitely a nice way to start the vacation (ignoring of course the drive over here, which was more of a prelude to the vacation ).
