First cache of the day for our trip back from camping. After spending the weekend at Clear Lake, we worked our way back to the city.

Working ones way from one location to another however cannot be done without at least attempting to get some geocaching in however. I'm pretty sure it's the law somewhere... "When traveling from point A to point B, one must attempt to geocache at least once during said trip". I ended up with three geocaching ventures on the way home... of which this was the first.

It was actually somewhat amusing (to me at least) in going after this geocache. My wife and I were just driving down the highway away from Clear Lake, when I was talking to her about finding geocaches that are along the road. At that particular moment, I happened to look at my GPS and see that we were just passing right beside one. The sentence I was saying at that moment turned out something like "I'll just be going after geocaches that are... right behind us."

Thankfully, there was no traffic behind me, so I quickly pulled onto the shoulder and did a U-turn to get closer to the coordinates. Upon getting near, I actually held off a bit to get some suntan lotion on and to switch to my sandals. The sun was definitely beating down today, and me being ghost-white most of the time figured I should lotion myself up to avoid burning to a crisp. While I was lotioning, another vehicle stopped across the road from us. I was somewhat confused, and figured they were most likely more geocachers. Why else would someone stop around there?

I was seriously thinking about asking them if they were geocachers too, but decided against it for some reason. Turns out... they weren't. The group of 3 men ended up going onto the opposite side of the road from the cache and took a few pictures of them with or around that old-style car looking thing. They then got back into their truck-hauling-a-camper and took off.

"Huh", I thought. "A little unusual, but whatever." I then took of myself towards the coordinates. Since it rained last night, the grass was still quite wet. Tromping through the grasses, I eventually found myself at the coordinates. My first attempt to find the cache ended up with me disturbing somewhere on the order of 1x10^65 ants. My initial poking seems to have disturbed a severely large ant nest, as they little buggers just kept swarming out non-stop. Stepping back a few paces, my eyes happened to fall upon a slightly unusual looking area in the grass. Diving in quickly (to try to avoid the ants), I discovered I had indeed found the cache . VERY well hidden this time of year. It was almost invisible at first.

I took another 10 steps away from the anthill to sign the logbook. I had to crouch since I didn't want to get my butt wet in the grass to boot. Poking around the contents, I didn't see anything that caught my eye. Closing 'er up, I quickly stepped in to replace the cache as found, and gallop out of the tall grass. Last thing I need while wearing sandals is a massive swarm of ants attacking my feet. Yeah, that's all I need for a long drive home... unbearable pain in my feet . So future cachers... you may want to watch your step, or at least prepare for a potential ant swarm.
