This was the third crossing of the Whitemud River on the Pioneer Trail from Fort Garry to Edmonton. The cache is a lock and lock container. In the container are some "trinkets" and information on the Gladstone Fair. The Gladstone Agricultural Society has been in existence since 1877. It was originally called the Westbourne Electoral Division Agricultural Society. This year will mark the 131st anniversary of the fair!! There is a FTF certificate!!

Approximately one year ago I had been in the Gladstone area, and had located all of the geocaches in town. On the way back from camping at Clear Lake near Wasagaming, I discovered that THIS cache had sprung up.

"Well", I thought to myself... "I can't let the town go entirely cached and let THIS one slide by." My quest set out before me, I pointed the GPS at this cache and followed its lead.

Well... mostly followed its lead. It wanted me to take some gravel road into town. Not being familiar with that road in the slightest (or knowing if it was actually a road that connected to town by something other than a dirt trail), I took the main entrance and wound my way through town towards the coordinates. Laura at least got to see the "Happy Rock" up close. Last time we were in town, we had turned off into town before passing the Happy Rock, and I had only happened to see it up close because of the geocache right there. Hence, Laura didn't get to see it at all. This time at least, she was able to see what everyone was talking about. The pictures just don't do it justice.

Well... as much justice as a giant rock that's made to look like a person-ish sorta thing can get .

After weaving through town, I eventually encountered a gravelish road that was more dirt than gravel anyway. It having rained the past night (which was quite evident here as well, given the tracks on the "road"), I was a tad worried that I might sink and get stuck. However, since the other car tracks seemed to have not sunk, I figured it should be good.

Plunging onwards, we parked close to the coordinates. On Laura's suggestion, I snapped a pic of the 'Third Crossing' sign nearby (see attached). It didn't take long to find the coordinates... although I did have to venture back to it twice, since the first time I realized I didn't have my geocaching bag with me .

Upon locating the cache, I discovered that taking even half of a step further would have been quite unwise. It looks to be a pretty steep bank there leading into the river (Steam? Diverson? Creek? What is that, anyway). Carefully grabbing the cache, I popped it open and checked out what was inside. Nothing that particularly caught my eye for trading, but a chainmail ball it received, after which it found its way back to its hiding spot.

Thanks for placing another cache in Gladstone for me to find. As of present... I've once again cached Gladstone dry . The surrounding areas however are debatable... depending on how far out you want to consider.

On the way out of town, we once again passed by that... I think it's a school's field that has a lot of tires kinda half-buried in the ground. I'm always amused with that, because I keep saying that it's a tire-field, and they're growing quite a nice crop this year .

What can I say... I'm easily amused .
