The centralization of power in Rio de Janeiro met with violent resistance in the Northeast. When Pernambuco raised the banner of republican rebellion in 1817, it was followed by Para�ba do Norte, Rio Grande do Norte, and the south of Cear�, each of which acted to defend local interests without thought of federating. They resented their loss of autonomy to Rio de Janeiro and the Portuguese who had settled in the Northeast since 1808. Significantly, although they sent envoys to secure recognition from Britain and the United States and to spread the revolt to Bahia, they did not send agents to central or southern Brazil. The revolt was crushed brutally. Although unsuccessful, the 1817 "Pernambuccan revolution" shook the monarchy's foundations because it had pushed aside authority and tarnished the crown's aura of invincibility. In desperation, the monarchy responded by banning all secret societies and by garrisoning Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and Recife with fresh troops from Portugal. With war threatening once again, who will emerge victorius? The cache container is a typical micro container. Please note the number on the front page of the log book. Quite the intriguing hiding spot on this one. I sorta kinda expected it when I was getting close to the vicinity in general, but was still curious as to how it could be pulled off. This cache has shown me the way... to place a cache... in this specific type of location... yeah .

In either case... MAN... kinda annoying to try to find parking for this one. I swear there was a 'no parking' sign everywhere I looked. Well, no matter... was able to park on a nearby residential street (as seems to always be the case ), and wander over. First started out by scrambling through the bushes... and then thought it might be useful to zoom in on the GPS system so I have... y'know... a vaguely decent chance of actually knowing where the cache is hidden without circling around for 40 minutes. So yes... one zoom-in later, and I was able to find it quickly. Nice hide again, man .
