Man, I've been wanting to topple this cache for a looong time now. Back in May 21st, 2007 I coudln't find easy access from South Drive highway/road. And then on June 14th, 2009, I had AGAIN been wanting to tackle the cache, but was simply too tired to try it. I had an idea of how to get to it without bushwhacking, but simply didn't have it in me to try going after it.

But today is different. From the lake/pond swimming area, I followed the paths around it until I was on the furthest West part of the path. As I had assumed a year ago, there was another road running further West still. There was a fork however, so I took the South-traveling road. It ended up just killing some of my energy, since once I got to the end of it onto yet another gravel road, the continuation of the path I was on was closed off. I went North a little bit and ended up following a road West that was the continuation of the other fork of the road. Eventually however, the resultant road found its way to... a massive sand pit!

Man, I LOVE playing in sand pits! Unfortunately I was too tired to really DO much there (although I did do a bit... see below) this time, I rode my way to the bottom of the pit and walked across it. Enjoying the feel of the sand slurping between my sandals and my feet (in retrospect I might have gone barefoot if I'd thought of it... but given the number of branches or animal bones around... and the cut on my foot from some branch that jabbed it... probably for the best I didn't), I hauled my bike up the opposite side generally close to the cache. So, only about a 5-foot hill, not the really tall part of it.

It didn't take long (although it felt like longer, since I was getting very sore and tired by this point) to find the cache once I was on the right path. I quickly signed the logbook, and jotted down that was planning on trying to ride my bike down the highest part of the sand hill.

And thus... I did just that . Taking my bike around to the South-East edge of the pit where it seemed the tallest, I pointed my front wheel down the slope, and began my slide/roll downwards. There was no stopping the bike at this point, but thanks to having done similar slides in other locations, I swung my butt out behind the bike seat, and was crouched down so I was just about sitting on the rear tire itself. Thankfully it was enough to keep me balanced and stop me from flipping over, and I gracefully slid/rolled all the way down the hill to the bottom. AWESOME FUN . If anyone reading this comes with a bike, I highly recommend giving it a try. But if you're not familiar with it, prepare for possibly falling on your side or something the first time or so. Follow my method above, and you'll see how fun it is .

So that aside, I began to ride off. About 500 meters away... I realized that I hadn't left my signature chainmail ball in the cache! I almost debated saying 'screw it', but given I haven't missed a cache yet (aside from Earthcaches or Virtual caches that have no container), I biked (and walked when on the sand) my tired self back to the cache. One chainmail ball later, and I headed out... coincidentally passing two other bikers walking down the path. Don't know if they were geocachers, but if they were I hope they read in the log about biking down the hill and try it . I also stumbled across the mysterious oasis pond, with the even more mysterious cylinder thing submerged in it (see pics). If it's far enough away, I'd almost be tempted to hide an underwater cache in that cylinder thing .

All in all... a 30km bike ride today, and it ended with an awesomely fun cache. THANKS MAN! Although it appears the ammo-can lid isn't capable of closing any more... you probably want to look into that sometime. The clasp hooks were kind mangled when I got there, and it's simply not... claspable any more.
