My first cache so I hope the ratings are close.

This could be a bit tricky but there are 2 ways to get in along Stone Creek. If it is raining be sure to wear rubber boots. If you take a prize please leave a prize for the next finder thanks. Right now there is a lot of water in the creek.

It's a bit on private property with permission from the owner.

Well, this was a creative little cache in seemingly the middle of nowhere. I happened to have been in the area, and have been hankering for some more geocaching lately despite a busy schedule, and I'm definitely glad that I made time for this one.

So today my wife and I were spending the day with my mom out in Landmark. We had decided to head to Joey's for dinner since I've never been (delicious by the way), and so knowing this in advance I loaded up my GPS with caches in the Steinbach area. Given that both my wife and my mom are non-geocachers, I figured there'd be zero chance of going on a full-blown geocaching in town, but hey... I figured I could at least grab one or two of them while I was there. And wouldn't you know it, having checked geocaching.com ahead of time, there happened to be a cache like... 200 meters from the restaurant! How fortuitous BigSmile.

After we headed out and had quite the tasty meal (mental note on re-visiting that place), the others had finally consented to me poking around after a geocache or two. After all, I was the one driving, so I at least had some sway there ToungeOut. Although it seemed to be a bit difficult to actually find where to access this cache from. And honestly, I STILL don’t know where the other side of the creek is… and I circled the block trying to figure this cache out! Must have missed it somewhere, or maybe one end runs through a culvert underground.

In either case, not seeing an immediate entrance close to the restaurant, I circled around down the residential street and found that end of the creek. We weren’t entirely sure if that was alright, since my wife wondered if perhaps the creek was itself private property.

As well, at this time I still thought there must be a small park or something in the middle that the cache was sitting in, so I was looking moreso for an entrance to the theoretical park.

We circled around the block entirely, but none of us spotted any other entrance to the coordinates. At that point, I settled on the creek entrance that I had found being the place to enter from. After parking and hopping out of the car, I headed in. Although we’ve had a smattering of rain in the past bit, the ‘creek’ was almost entirely dry, with a few patches of mud here and there. As well, the second I got about 5 feet into the creek, it was plainly obvious that the creek was not itself private property, so any worries about that disappeared. It was actually quite nice walking in the shade for a bit.

I was a bit surprised when the creek suddenly veered North. I had expected it to basically go straight through to some culvert under highway 12. That definitely explained why the waypoint kept staying to my right instead of me going straight to it ToungeOut. Continuing to follow the creek, I soon found the GPS settling down, and I began to wonder how in the world a cache could be hidden around here. Ahh… but it didn’t take me long to spot the cache container. I have in the past found a similarly hidden cache, so it stuck out enough for me to realize what I was looking at. As well, a bit of the… non-camouflage, shall we say, was visible at the time. At the time I was a bit worried about the fact that, as mentioned in the description, it’s technically on private property… but it appears the cache owner has already covered that base Smile.

The cache found, I signed my name and placed it back. However, I almost forgot to drop in a chainmail ball signature item, so made another quick attack on the cache and it was soon replaced as found. I made a specific note to hide the cache such that the non-camouflage earlier mentioned wasn’t visible and wouldn’t give it away.

Back to the car with another cache under my belt, and a fun adventure behind me. Thanks for the very creative location and hide BigSmile. Definitely glad I didn’t show up here after a lot of rain.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry, Purr-fect Geo-Cat geocoin (cats like water, right? ToungeOut), and chainmail ball
