Found it 6/19/2010 by Kabuthunk
Been a few weeks since I've had a chance to find a cache. Almost a touch disappointed in myself, given it's summer, so I should be out a lot more. But alas, prior commitments forbid. However, today I found myself with a bit of time during which nothing else was happening. And for seemingly the first time in a while, it was surprisingly sunny out too BigSmile! Thus, after a bit of shopping, I decided to head over to St. Vital park. Having checked my GPS just after shopping, it appears that a few more have appeared in the area as of late. It's almost strange... back when I put my puzzle cache in the vague, general vicinity of this area of Winnipeg, there was virtually no caches in the park at all! Now... looking at the google geocache map, there's over 10 active caches in the park itself, and several more immediately nearby! Gotta love how more caches keep appearing here BigSmile.

But that aside, on with today's caching. Working my way into the park (not all that easy, since the mass leafiness of the trees and bushes kinda hide the entrance to the park), I found myself some parking generally central to the three caches that were still unfound by me. I actually began slowly working my way over towards the St Vital Park Cache #2, but due to taking in the atmosphere of the park and looking at all the growth (especially of that green... algae I assume?... over the pond. MAN that water looks green today), I ended up veering towards this one instead. Of course, I couldn't really stop for all that long, since there was an absolutely ludicrous number of mosquitoes out today.

So continuing, I ended up stopping about 50 meters away from the cache to let several people in the area meander away from the cache area. In the meantime, I either spotted a ridiculously tame bird, or I was close to its nest (probably the latter). In either case, I was able to stand about 5 feet from it and take a picture of it (see attached... slightly blurry though, since my camera decided to act stupid today and have problems focusing on anything). By the time I had snapped the picture, one of the people had meandered off, but a second one... seemed to be elbow-deep into the underside of a tree. So I thought to myself... "gotta be a geocacher". Walking up, she eventually spotted me, and I asked if they were geocaching. Yep, indeed they were, and I introduced myself. Nice to meet you, CaptainConquest Smile. It's very rare that I meet another cacher in the wild, so it was kinda nice to stumble across someone.

Moments after I arrived though, she made the find, and we both signed the logbook. After I dropped a micromail ball in, we chatted for a few seconds but were headed in opposite directions. Given I had found most caches in the park so far, and she had apparently just started (got your work cut out for you... there's plenty in here now!), we split up and continued on our ways. Not before giving her a regular chainmail ball though, because I like to spread the word... of chainmail ToungeOut.

So the chance meeting aside, after CaptainConquest had put everything back in the container, I replaced it as before while she packed up onto her bike again. I may not have made the find directly on this one, but I'm pretty sure I would have about 10 seconds after arriving regardless ToungeOut. But hey, meeting another cacher is always an interesting rarity. And in this case, the chance meeting was quite fortuitous for her as well, since she apparently had forgotten to bring a pencil or pen. Since my geocaching kit has spares of basically everything, I gave her one of those simple mechanical pencils for the rest of her travels today Smile.

Thanks for getting another cache (or two) into the park. I love coming to this place, and its kinda nice when there's always a new geocache to go after Smile.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and micromail ball
