Well, this evening was full of all kinds of interesting things and surprises. After I wandered over towards the caf that I had previously visited about 2 years ago-ish, imagine my surprise that when I opened the doors it seemed... bigger. Like... 10 times bigger (that's what she said?). Gone was the little pastry-and-tea place, and present was a large, open area with a ton of tables, and wait... is that a STAGE on the far end of the room? Last time I was here, it didn't even HAVE anything big enough to be considered a "far end" ToungeOut. Not sure if they still sell the large variety of tea though.

So, having prepared myself for a fairly small gathering (after all... the old place had a person capacity of like... 20 people ToungeOut), I was quite surprised and admittedly a bit nervous to enter a room that must have had no less than 30 people already, and more coming in constantly! Luckily, OHMIC happened to be near the entrance, and told me to find a seat wherever I could. Wandering my way past the droves of strangers, I eventually came across the geocaching crowd. However... it appeared that all tables were full, and I would have to begin a fresh table.

And now... it was awkward. Like... ridiculously so (in my mind). Here I am, sitting alone amidst a crowd of people, most of whom I've never seen before, without the ability/opportunity to merge in with others that I know. Thus... I just sat.

Why did I just sit? Well, if you know me, you're probably well aware that me and starting conversations do not get along. I'm the type of person who will sit alone the entire night in the corner, rather than attempt to start a conversation with anyone if I'm in unfamiliar territory. Unfortunately, this was unfamiliar enough to fit the bill (yeah, I need to get out to events more often).

At this time however, someone came to my rescue. And for that, I thank you Old Billygoat. Had you not taken the time to sit with me and chat me up for a while, there's a very distinct possibility that I would have simply got up and left after about another 5 minutes of extremely conspicuous-feeling nervousness. So that was arguably the highlight of the evening for me... chatting it up with Old Billygoat, breaking the ice, making me more relaxed a bit with the surroundings BigSmile.

Shortly thereafter, mingling began, and I was able to migrate into a table with Dani, TurdleEggs, and well... I can't offhand remember the half-dozen or so people who cycled through that table ToungeOut. Soon thereafter, Dani offered up her poutine that she couldn't finish, and DAMN is that poutine good BigSmile. I soon enough ordered up another half-order for myself, and otherwise chatted and mingled with the other geocachers. Of course, given I was in a 2-hour parking window, midway through the evening I had to go move my car, which I ended up parking on the exquisitely smooth, no-stress-to-the-shock-absorbers-whatsoever gravel parking lot beside the caf ToungeOut. Yeah... kinda glad I didn't lose a muffler in there ToungeOut. After moving the car however, I ran into Z'tirnats and Z'ad, who told me of a quick Multi-cache that was nearby. So, I quickly swooped down and made a find on that before returning to the crowds.

The band that came up after a short while was quite good. Typically, I'm more of a 'metal' type person, but this was actually really relaxing and nice to listen to (it probably helps that I don't mind like... a dozen different genres of music, too). It definitely fit the atmosphere very well. Nice choice on getting them to play here OHMIC BigSmile.

After the first set however, I had to leave, for there is work tomorrow Frown. All in all though, that was a REALLY fun night, and I've really got to get out to events more often BigSmile.

Took: Some of Dani's poutine
Left: Chainmail ball, payment for my own poutine, and a tip ToungeOut.

P.S.: Dani... don't forget to message me the code for that geo-woodstock coin!

Barring any unforseen circumstances, I'll be there. Might be a bit late, since I only get home at about 6:00 though.
