This cache is located in the historic Forks area. Take some time to visit this hub of activity in downtown Winnipeg.

The Provencher Paired Bridges Project - the replacement of an 83 year old structure with two new structures designed to meet the needs of the public well into the 21st century.

On September 5, 2000, Winnipeg's City Council approved the preliminary design and authorized the start of detailed design and environmental licensing for the Paired Bridges, to replace the existing Provencher Bridge.

The Paired Bridges design includes two separate bridges - one designed primarily for vehicles and commuter cyclists and the other designed exclusively for pedestrians, cyclists, and recreational users. The slender-profile vehicular bridge includes two through lanes in each direction, divided by a centre median, and features a short right turn lane for traffic turning onto Ave Tache southbound. The pedestrian bridge is a modern cable-stayed structure, light and elegant, featuring a large plaza for commercial activities -- a meeting place that will connect Provencher Boulevard to The Forks physically, economically and culturally. The Paired Bridges are expected to strengthen the connection between The Forks and the St. Boniface French Quarter, becoming a symbolic gateway between two of Winnipeg's most historically significant communities and promoting commerce and tourism.

As this is a microcache it contains only a logbook. Bring your own writing stick.

Found it 4/15/2007 by Kabuthunk
Today was a good day for a nice hike. Hence... I had resolved to head out to the Forks today, and find the remaining caches in the area which I had not yet found. Last time I cached at the forks was at the onset of winter, and nowhere close to warm enough for any good caching. Today should prove to be a lot better Smile.

Hence... I've been eyeing this guy for a while, so it was first on the chopping block. I had almost gotten my fiancee and fiancee's friend to go find it with me about a month or so ago, but it was too cold then for a walk through open areas. Today... I was going solo. After a nice walk past the extremely packed skateboard-park (stopped for a few minutes on the way to and from the cache to watch 'em. Some of 'em are pretty good), I found myself at ground zero. A little bit of poking here, some prodding there, a bit of a wrong location there, followed by a find BigSmile. Nice spot. After feeling around at first with my hands, I had a pretty safe idea as to HOW the cache would be hidden, so it was just a matter of locating it.

Not many other people were nearby either (which is a surprise, since it was nice out), so I didn't really have to contend with bypassers looking at me funny. Strangely, just as I arrived, most of the people sitting around there left, and a big pile of 'em came in just as I was leaving. It's like they were all avoiding me or something. Which is ALSO strange, because I wasn't wearing my trenchcoat today ToungeOut. I decided to go with the less-threatening, less-suspicious jacket today. Bah... damn punk kids ruining the reputation of trenchcoats. Well, I still wear it... but just not today in particular ToungeOut. Thanks for the nice walk though BigSmile.
