Today was both a good day, and a mildly irritating day for geocaching for me. Mostly good though, and certainly very interesting throughout the day. The only mild irritation was the fact that many, many others took advantage of the weather and managed to time themselves to be immediately nearby the caches right when I wanted to go after them ToungeOut.

My wife and I had decided to head to Grand Beach today. The weather forecast was... ehh... sketchy at best however. I had been checking The Weather Network every day for the past week, seeing what they had going on for Saturday. In The Weather Network's oh-so-accurate predicting, throughout my checking, they had thundershowers predicted throughout the day on some days, and on other days they predicted warm and cloudy. Today it showed thundershowers all day, yesterday it showed cloudy, the day before it showed thundershowers... so we decided to say 'screw it' and just go to Grand Beach anyway. The meteorologists clearly didn't know what they were talking about this weekend anyway. So off we drove, crossing our fingers. And aside from a bit of drizzle that hit our windshield about halfway to the beach, the day was beautiful. For a small section of the day, we even got some sun happening out there! MAN were those meteorologists off for today. I had contemplated turning around when it started to drizzle in the car, but I'm glad we kept going to see what happened.

But anyway, with the day turning out fine, I decided to go on a trek for some geocaches, while my wife opted to stay on the beach and read a book. By the end of all of this, my hike would end up being about 10km long and involve slogging through a bog for a while, so it's probably for the best ToungeOut. This cache however lay near the start of my journey. After being unable to search for a nearby cache due to a pair of bystanders enjoying themselves in the immediate vicinity, I abandoned that hunt and headed thisaway. After a fair hike, I think fate decided to laugh at me a bit, and JUST as I was beginning to near the coordinates, a pack of about 5 or so people walked down some path towards the banks.

Sure, it could be dead empty the entire day for all I know, just not when I happen to be there ToungeOut. Not knowing where the cache was, I hiked down the trail a bit to see if they had left the area. I heard them talking somewhere off to the South a bit, but still on the banks. Not wanting to be conspicuous (I'm a very shy person at best, and paranoid to boot), I opted not to head down to the bank to check out the view, and instead went to see if I could find the cache without standing out too much. At first I thought the cache was down this path, but quickly corrected myself and worked my way over to ground zero. With seemingly nobody in sight, I located the cache moments later and retrieved the cache container BigSmile. A quick signing and a chainmail ball later, and I replaced the cache as found.

Although, I wish I'd read the cache description prior to coming out to Grand Beach. I was unaware those information cards were for the taking, and more thought they were tradeables or something, and thus left them alone Frown. Don't worry... there's still a few caches left in the park that I'll be attempting sometime in the future. I'll see if I can remember to head back to these caches to check out the info card at that time Smile. Also, I didn't notice the geocoin that's apparently supposed to be in here. Could be I just missed it though, since I was in a hurry to avoid looking conspicuous.

Thanks for the cache though. I never looked around through town before, and quite likely never would have if it hadn't been for these caches Smile.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and chainmail ball
