I planned tackling the 'rock and a hard place' cache and this one during my bike ride today. They've both been mocking me, being so close to home... both remaining unfound for so long . So today, I grabbed my bike with the full intent of finding 'em. After a relatively quick and interesting find with the 'rock' cache, I headed over towards this one.

I had actually made a vague half-assed attempt to get this cache a few weeks ago, but I was on the wrong side of the river at the time, and thus didn't bother either trying to find it, or looping around the river to make the find. TODAY however... it would be different.

At the end of the cement path, I found myself looking at a very familiar bike trail through the trees. Back when my sister lived in Royalwood, I would house-sit for them every so often. During those sittings of the house, I can't even count how many times I must have biked along these paths. The memories came back very quickly... well, they kinda had to, since I was taking the trails pretty quick at one point . Although much of the trails were quite soggy today, it looks like a lot more development has come up in the way of a 'higher, drier' route right beside the soggy one. There used to only be that in one or two placed about 10 or so years ago, but virtually all the soggy spots are bypassable now! Quite convenient . Although, there was like... three times as many soggy spots this time than 10 years ago too .

After a bit more biking, I found that I had gone 50 meters too far and doubled back a bit. Hauling my bike off-trail for a bit, and I was quickly at the coordinates. It didn't take me long to find the cache. In fact, I probably spent more time pondering that weird metal enclosure around the tree (of which several random trees down the trail seem to have) that had the number "204" spray-painted onto it. So yes... after perplexing about that for a bit, I made the find and opened the cache container.

SWEET! One of those uber-bright LED flashlight type things! My old one went kinda dead a while back, so it's nice to be able to replace it . Leaving a caribiner in its place, I signed the logbook and closed up the cache. Putting it back into its hiding spot, I gave it a bit more 'natural camouflage' to make it a bit more hidden. Not that I forsee it being found by a non-geocacher over there anytime soon, but y'never know.

Thanks for taking me down this old biking trail again... it's been way too long since I was last here. I think the only time I go down here is for the geocaches that occasionally spring up along it . I decided to continue my biking down the path, and came across an old sight I remember from way back. I've attached a picture, too . Down the trail a bit (for those who haven't gone that far) is a tree that's been through some... uhh... rough times. It looks like the inside of it has been burned-out, but the tree keeps living. Some kids have also nailed some 'steps' onto the side of it, so you could climb to the top if you wanted. I ended up going about 3/4 the way up before deciding that I didn't want to leave my bike unlocked down below while I was messing around. Seems pretty stable, but I'm pretty light.

So yeah... thanks for the forest-cache. Got a flashlight-type LED thing out of the deal, and got to venture down the old trails again .
