You won't have to go any further than the windmill. Congratulations Friendly Ghosts on this FTF!! This cache is placed in honour of R's Dad who turns 76 this year! Born and raised on the family farm, he took over the farm, raised his own family there until his retirement and then moved to suburban Landmark! The theme of this cache is some of Dad's favourite things: John Deere tractors, pigs, turkeys and travelling. Old Farmers are outstanding in their fields!

As what seems to be the case 98% of the time I find a cache in this general vicinity, I was out visiting my Mom and happened to bring my geocaching kit with me. While chilling at her place for a bit, I decided to turn on the GPS to see if anything new had sprung up since the last time I was out. And what's this? Just a few miles away was a cache, somewhere vaguely close to the intersection of the 210 and 206 highways? SWEET!

Zooming in a bit closer on my GPS, I saw the familiar road-map of Landmark. No doubt about it... this cache was directly inside the village (or has Landmark finally upgraded to Town yet?) But something seemed unusual... having lived several kilometers outside Landmark (in what used to be called "Silberfeld") for most of my life, I had spent a decent amount of time learning the streets of town visiting friends... and during none of that time did I recall a park or otherwise empty area where the coordinates seemed to be pointing. However, it HAS been years since I've wandered the side-streets of Landmark.

It didn't take much more than the knowledge of a nearby cache for me to hop into the car for a quick drive. A few kilometers of gravel followed by a few more of pavement (and finally a last little bit of gravel again) and I was near the coordinates. Although the area the cache was in definitely wasn't vacant, nor was it a park. Time for Cachemate to do what it was meant to... let me read the cache description.

A quick check of the description told me that indeed the cache was not only allowed, but dedicated to the Pletts. Having known and grown up with a number of them, I wondered if perhaps even someone whom I had gone to school with was living here. The names on the side of the house however didn't look familiar . Any chance either the cache owner or the property owner is related to a 'Matthew', 'Jason', or 'Johnathan' whom would be about 28 or 29 by now? Ahh, that would bring back memories, seeing people from school again. I can't physically remember the last time I've seen someone who was in my grade.

But I digress... seeing that the cache was allowed, I hopped out of the car and walked towards the coordinates. After several minutes, I randomly realized I didn't have my car keys with me, and thought I may have locked them in the car. So if anyone was watching from the house... that's the reason I walked back to the car, and back to the cache location again. The keys were in the car, but it wasn't locked *whew*. Let the search continue! After a few dead-ends, I located the cache! Unfortunately, I lacked anything vaguely John-Deere or farm-animal related. Alas, a chainmail ball will have to do for lack of a better option.

I wrote in the logbook that I would attempt to thank the property owners for allowing a cache to be placed here. However, as I was getting ready to walk up to the door and see if anyone was home to thank in person, I chickened out (does that count as being turkey-related? ). The cache description said we wouldn't have to go further than the security sign, so I didn't know if that meant they didn't WANT us to go further than that sign.

If I'm mistaken, and they enjoy talking to geocachers, let me know. I WOULD still like to thank them in person next time I'm out for allowing the cache to be there. There definitely needs to be more caches out in these parts, and this family starting the ball rolling for caches directly inside Landmark is awesome .

So yes... as is implied, thanks greatly for the in-Landmmark geocache! Definitely glad to see I'm not the only one placing caches in the nearby vicinity (if you count within 10km radius 'nearby' ). Hope to see more in the future .
