My only find of the day, but that's all I need. I'm having another another go at beating my old record for most consecutive days of finding a cache... 9. Today makes 5 days. Yes, I know... they're meager numbers at best, but that just means I've got a bit better a shot at beating it .

And I didn't break the chain today! Prior to going after this cache, after I found nearby parking I decided to check the last 5 logs I had access to in my palm pilot with Cachemate. They gave me a few hints as to in what general direction I should be looking, and that bystanders could prove to be a problem. I crossed my fingers, I hopped out of the car, headed across the crosswalk, and started trudging directly towards the coordinates.

Despite being almost 6:00pm, there were surprisingly few people immediatly visible. However, there could easily be people hiding amongst the pillars of that structure, or just over the hill in general. As I began going up the hill, a random bystander came into view. He had been hidden from my field of vision by one of the four corner-pillars. Relaxing my stride, I casually sauntered in. Thankfully, this particular bystander was just a jogger adjusting his mp3 player and stretching his legs. Seconds later, he jogged off down the trail. Noone visible now... let's get to work .

Initially, my GPS told me ground zero was nowhere near... well... anything, which rather confused me. It slowly re-centered itself, and I got nearer to the cache (and in the end, had standing immediately at it's location ). I first decided to give a good, solid look at the four corner-pillars. A bit of reaching and pulling, and I had quickly searched the sides and top of three of the pillars. I had to wait for another pedestrian to go by before tackling the fourth. No such luck . However... between pillar 1 and pillar 2, I thought I saw something... odd. However, I decided it wasn't significant enough, and continued on my search of the pillars.

When will I ever learn to stop ignoring these hunches .

After the pillar-hunt was complete, I gave the entire thing a full walk-around while staring at any crevace that might contain anything. I also did this in a sauntering, killing-time kinda way, since off in the distance (about 100m or so away) someone was walking up the path. I completed my circle, and was just as cache-less as when I got there.

Then ANOTHER pedestrian decided to come walking by. It was an old woman who kept looking at me weird, giving me the stink-eye. WHAAAAAT? I'm wearing decent work-clothes, I'm relaxing, sauntering around... why the stink-eye? Hmph... so quick to judge poorly, some are. While she was stink-eyeing me, I gave the trees nearby a quick look-over, to look more like I'm sauntering, and in case the structure was throwing off my accuracy. Nothing there, so once she was out of sight I went back to the structure.

Then I remembered that 'odd thing'. The coast was clear, so I poked my fingers around and made the find ! And right now, I'm VERY thankful I have long legs, arms, fingers, and a good sense of balance . While sitting down and signing the log (and discovering the container is about 3mm's too small to put a geocoin into that I need to move along somewhere), two kids on bikes pulled up. I wasted a bit more time poking around on my GPS, sitting down and relaxing... cache in hand. They parked their bikes and began skateboarding down the path. The second they were out of sight, I quickly slipped the cache back where I found it, and walked off to the car. All in all, a most successful cache hunt despite the passing pedestrians slowing it down .

Thanks for the cache in the beautiful park! Mental note if I need somewhere to relax after work .
