Headed out with my nieces for some geocaching today. Added bonus... it was her birthday! So a bit of an extra present of geocaching for her today ToungeOut.

After making the drive out to Carman, I turned on ye olde GPS to see what's kicking around town. The last time I was in Carman (well, with my GPS anyway) I had found all but one geocache... the remainder being Riverwalk. And we had already found the first stage of that one anyway way back when, but the girls were too tired to go on (I think it was like... +35 or something out that day, and humid as hell). Today I figured that at the BARE minimum, we sould be able to polish that one off.

But what's this? Upon zooming out on the whole of Carman, I find not one, not two, but THREE brand new geocaches in the vicinity! Well, one was a puzzle-cache, but since I have cachemate, I figured there was a chance I could solve it later. But first... to take my nieces out to the brand new (for us, anyway) traditionals in town.

This one was the closest to where my nieces live. In fact, I think it was a total of 550 meters from where their house is! It was found in late January, so not TOO long ago. At least there's a fairly good chance it's still kicking around, anyway. Off we go!

Parking at what I think is the back corner of the 'parking lot'... which I quickly discovered after getting out was grass. Figured it'd be too frozen to cause a problem, but it also astounded me in that... well... GRASS! Spring was definitely in the air today. My nieces were happy, it was fairly warm out, slight breeze to keep you from overheating from the sun... truly an ideal winter day to go geocaching BigSmile.

Off through the snow we tromped. Unfortunately, since I only had my shoes with me, I found that the slightly crusty surface of the snow was having some issues holding my weight, and frequenly dropped me down to deeper-than-shoe-level. So... I walked in my niece's footprints as I kinda pointed out the direction. Only at times like this do I realize that a) they're lighter than me, so my stepping in their steps is almost completely pointless, and b) that they take a lot smaller steps than me ToungeOut.

A short walk later, and we found ourselves at ground zero. Having found another geocache in Carman hidden in a nigh-identical manner, I very quickly spotted the cache. I however let the nieces look around for it without telling them where it was to let them get some adventuring in early. After all... it IS one of their birthdays. It took about 15 seconds for her to spot it and pull it out of it's hiding spot. VICTORY IS OURS BigSmile!

Of course, my nieces being quite young, they wanted to trade for random things. Good thing I have a decent supply of swag kicking around. A little bit of trading here and there, and we happily closed up the cache and stored it back where we retrieved it from. A very fun start to what turned out to be quite a productive day BigSmile.

Thanks again for the cache. Nice spot, and on a beautiful day to boot Smile.

Took: 'Kisses' stone and plastic ring (for my nieces, obviously ToungeOut).
Left: Bouncy ball, Marvel pog slammer, and chainmail ball
