Bit late on the logging of this. But… I'm going to have to blame that one on the fact that the release date for Fallout - New Vegas was… well… today. In all actuality, given that I picked it up right after work, I'm a bit surprised I was able contain my enthusiasm and go to this event, instead of bail and go play the game ToungeOut.

But yes… I AM quite glad that I came… both very informative, and as with all times I go to the Pancake House, the food is awesome (giant German pancake for the win! The giant ham and cheese pancake is awesome too). My wife and I actually showed up a bit early, since I had just picked her up from Red River College just a bit away from here. Kinda convenient actually… was able to pick her up, and was already in the area for the event! But… since we were a half-hour early, we ended up wandering a bit of the mall before heading over. Once we'd arrived, we weren't sure what to do. I saw a group of people once inside, but couldn't recognize any of the faces offhand (my needing new glasses and constantly putting it off probably doesn't help ToungeOut). The sign said wait to be seated, so we did just that… waited. Eventually, I recognized Dani at about the same time as she saw us, and she waved us over. It looks like most people were already there, but we found some seats on the 'inside' of the U-shaped table arrangement. At which point, we promptly ordered pancakes.

Eventually, the meeting started to get rolling, and I learned a little bit about how Mega Events work as a whole. Pretty interesting, actually. Although in retrospect, when people were doing a minor brainstorming about potential locations for a Manitoba Mega Event, I wish I would have brought up what I thought of now. Albeit Bird's Hill or other locations can hold 500+ people as a whole… I don't know if it can hold 500 people's worth of parking. Dani mentioned some other event had parking a mile away and bus service. But eh… I don't have the geographical knowledge of the area to make a solid debate one way or the other on that really.

My offer still stands to make a chainmail ball for each of the 'gift bags' for the event, if gift bags are going to be done. Probably for the best that it's several years in the future, since estimating it in my head, it takes about 5 pounds of rings to make about 230 balls… and I don't even know how many hours of work it took me to make THAT when I did way back when I started caching. Over doubling that (sorry Dani… we'll have to wait and see on making two per bag, since that would over quadruple the largest number I’ve ever made at once… gauge it on how fast I can make them in general, or order the rings in. Might have to stick with 1 per person… we’ll see) will be a feat, but I should be able to pound that out over the course of a few years. And yeah, I signed myself up for odd jobs, since I know myself too well. I wouldn’t have the self-discipline or managerial skills to be able to supervise or outright plan anything from start to finish. Also, I tend to procrastinate when new video games are out (this log is an example… in fact, the only reason it’s up today is because I typed it up during a slow period at work, emailed it to myself, and then logged it at home in the 3 minutes before going back to Fallout ToungeOut).

But yeah… I’m a pretty creative type person, so I can brainstorm here and there and help out where I can. I can’t remember their name, but I told someone I might be able to run a “how to make string figures” type of workshop. Don’t even know if kids still like string figures nowadays… but yeah, something to keep kicking around if you need a workshop to eat some time with kids.

Aside from that, my wife and I headed out after a bit, and enjoyed the company of finally getting to another geocache event (in my continued effort to try to go to more of them). Hopefully you’ll see me around more often BigSmile.

Took: Nothing
Left: Name on volunteer sheet and chainmail ball (I think Georgia has it ToungeOut)

I end work at 6:30, so that works out well. I love the pancake house, so THAT works out well. Now we've just got to see if I can remember to go to it ToungeOut. In general, expect me to show up.
