That's what I'm talkin' about! I was feeling pretty good after Friday's attempt and subsequent successful find on the PB #2 cache that has plagued me for a very long time. So I figured... eh, let's keep this luck rolling a little bit, and see what I can do with that other DNF that's been sitting in my watchlist for far too long. I was a bit worried about going after this one however, due to the last several logs indicating a giant pile of snow was hindering things. But given the recent meltings lately, I figured I had at least a vague chance that the hiding spot may have become available. Another worry however was that if snow was indeed piled around the cache hiding area, what was the chance that this action would have dragged the cache away with it?

Well, only one way to find out! With my wife opting to stay at home, I made a quickly little jaunt out to tackle this cache. My first thought was to do a quick drive-by to see if the aforementioned snow pile would cause me any problems. It seemed to be sitting moreso beside the area I had planned to look... I was fairly certain where it had to be, and the snow pile was distinctly beside that... so I parked in the Shoppers' parking lot.

Unfortunately, it seems as though fate would throw me at least one curveball along the way. Parked 2 rows away, but lined up perfectly with and facing the coordinates was a truck just… sitting there, running, with a person in it. I didn’t feel particularly comfortable trying to go after the cache with someone for all intents and purposes staring directly at me. Or at least that’s what I assumed they’d do, because y’know… there’s nothing else to look at in that direction, might as well watch the guy poking around suspiciously .

Since their truck was running, I assumed they were waiting for someone and would leave before long. So I just wandered into the store for a few minutes, ended up getting me a Red Bull and those buffalo-wing flavoured nachos (love those things), and heading back to the car. The truck was gone, and so I quickly stashed my purchases and headed over. With the parking lot looking immediately person-free (a fair number of cars, but didn’t see anybody mulling around. Good, good, let’s do this thing! I had a theory as to what the hint might be implying, and if I was correct it wouldn’t help me in the absolute slightest until I’d already found it anyway. However, it could also vaguely associate to something else, but alas, that was about 10 feet above my head, and the difficulty level would imply that I do not climb things .

So, poking around where I had in the past… like I said, there’s not too many places it could really be… and for a bit I once again ended up empty handed. One more attempt however, and BINGO! I could have SWORN I’d checked this area the first time I was here, but I likely just didn’t quite hit upon the sweet spot. Oh well, no time for pondering. I headed back to the car to sign up the cache. It’s a bit difficult to get that logbook into or out of there… pretty tight fit. As I had figured, the hint really only says something after you already found it. Well, except in a kinda offhand way it would help if you think about it hard enough, but it’s stretching it.

But all of that is irrelevant! The ziplock bag has seen better days… I don’t think it’s meant to fit into that container, and the sides were split open already. The paper was bone-dry though, so no worries. I dropped in a micromail ball and signed up the logbook. A quick jog back over to the hiding spot, and a scant few seconds later saw the cache back in its hiding spot. Mission finally, finally accomplished. This sucker’s been hovering over my head since November, so I’m glad to see it off the list .

Kinda... really late on the log for this cache. But what can I say... Fallout: New Vegas . No matter... I still remember it like it happened today. My wife and I were heading over to Giant Tiger for a bit, since she had learned of some sale of things that we wanted (she works at the NorthWest company, which supplies Giant Tiger's stuff, and thus gets info on sales earlier than the rest of the public). We did our thing there, and then headed to Tims to grab some coffee and a bit of a snack.

Having had my Geocaching kit on me, I turned on the GPS to see if there happened to be anything vaguely nearby, since it had been a while since I tackled any geocaches (again... Fallout). To my great surprise, there appeared to be a cache less than 100 meters from where we were sitting! Since we were still snacking, I checked my palm pilot for the directions and last few logs (and the hint by default, since I have Cachemate set to automatically decrypt it). Last log was the only DNF I could see, and it indicated a lack of GPS. Otherwise, it looked like I shouldn't have a problem in theory. Sounds like I've got a plan for after leaving Tims .

After finishing eating, I walked on over while my wife pulled the car around closer. By that point, I had given the area a quick skim over, but had come up with nothing. At that point, I began looking for anything related to the hint, since previous logs had mentioned that the hint was particularly clever. Alas, I didn't see anything that even remotely fit the bill, aside from perhaps a sign that stood about 15 feet above my head. Seeing as the cache difficulty wasn't ridiculously high, I figured it didn't involve climbing gear . While my wife stayed in the car, I continued circling around, running my hand over, under, and inside of anything I could spot that might vaguely have contained a cache. Alas... I came up empty-handed at every attempt. I gave a good second run-through of anything even remotely metal (since the description indicates the cache is of a magnetic nature) within a 15 meter radius or so (there's not all that many things, so it wasn't hard), but still had no clue in the slightest what I should be looking for or where it could possibly still be hiding.

Alas, I think this one is stumping me for today. Perhaps after a read-over of all of the previous logs (since I only had access to the most recent 5 in my palm pilot) I might have a bit more insight, but due to certain video-game related distractions as of late, it may be a bit before I attempt this one again. At least until I finish the game. But there's sooooo many possible quests... so many... .

One day I shall return. One day.
