The 1950 flood devastated the campus,much of Winnipeg, and southern Manitoba. For 29 days (May 5 to June 8) water covered 1100 acres of university property, leaving only a 1/4 acre visible. UofM archives indicate that the water level reached 22 inches (0.56m) deep on the road in front of the current administration building – roughly 233.6 m above sea level. Decided to tackle this cache after having taking on Kings Park nearby. As well... I was quite curious as to how high the water got way back before I was born. I've heard that it was pretty insane... so I figured this cache would give me an idea.

Added bonus... I was COMPLETELY unaware that the U of M had any kind of marking of this. I went to university for several years... drove around that area dozens, if not hundreds, of times, and still never saw that there was any kind of marking. Upon arriving, it appears that the marking has been there for a looooooong time. Although, it looks like someone decided to add to the line (or make it more visible... not sure if it was done on purpose or as some kind of lazy vandalism) by spray-painting a red line horozontally at the same level as the one already on the wall.

Rather perplexed as to where a cache could be hiding there, I looked in about the only logical spot it could be. About 5 seconds later, the cache was in hand.

Thankfully, the pseudo-rainy day kept everyone at bay, and not a single car, pedestrian, or any sign of life went by while I was there. It DID however start raining, but not that hard, and it stopped shortly. My pants were just a little damp, and I was able to keep the logbook dry quite easily.

In either case... dropped off a Diabetes TB that I picked up earlier, and traded it for a Geocoin that was hiding inside of here.
