A screenshot from the Pokemon Red version of the game, a battle scene with Ash facing off against a trainer, ready to duel.

A Whimsical Screenplay

Scene 1 (Go Windmill Monster!)

View of a Pokémon trainer in shades pointing in front of them and to the left, "I challenge you to a Pokémon battle! Nidoran, go!", throws pokeball

Screen cut to Nidoran appearing in a flash of light - "Nidoran!"

Screen swipe to Ash pointing back and to the right. "Hah, no problem! Windmill Monster, I choose you!", throws pokeball

Screen stays on Ash while the sound of a ball opening and unholy screech accompanies a flash from offscreen to the bottom right. Immediately after the scream, rapid hacking and slashing sounds ensue. Ash's face transitions from happy trainer smile to stunned horror. Occasional splatters of blood hit his face.

About 3 seconds after unholy screech, text appears at bottom of screen that says "Nidoran has fainted". Hacking and slashing sounds do not slow down. More occasional splatters of blood throughout. 2 seconds after text, another unholy screech. Ash raises his arm, not changing horrified expression, and presses button to recall Pokémon. Hacking sounds stop only with the recall sound, and energy being pulled back into the pokeball. Ash's eye twitches twice.

Screen swipe to Game Corner, view of Ash from behind standing at the counter.
He places a pokeball on the counter and says to the vendor "I'd... like to return this."
Vendor: "Oh? Is there something wrong?"
Ash: "I... I don't wanna talk about it."

End scene

Scene 2 (I've done well today)

"Several months later" at top of black screen, fade to scene

View of a shop assistant in the Game Corner bringing a box to the vendor from last screenplay.
Assistant: "The next batch of Pokémon prizes has arrived. What do we do with the previous ones?"
Vendor: "Well Tommy, we release those into the wild, so that they're free to roam the countryside."

Screen transition to the evening, outside behind the game corner. Fields and hills in the distance. Transition to vendor's face
Vendor: "Go free little ones. Let the world be your oyster."

Sounds of multiple pokeballs opening, different Pokémon calls and the horrific screech are heard amongst the sounds of trampling feet slowly getting further away, with several more of the same Pokémon calls getting further away over the few seconds

Vendor: <happy exhale> "I've done well today."
<Unholy screech further away half second later>
