Getting to this cache won't be too bad -- it's getting into your hands that will be a challenge. You'll need rubbers, or high-top hiking boots for this one, as the trail can be pretty soggy in places, and you'll probably end up with wet feet somewhere in the last bit of the hike.

This cache was created to add to the number of QUALITY caches hidden in Manitoba. It is an official BLITZ cache for the May Madness event. Hope you enjoy the hunt!

Cache is near one of the hiking trails in the Assiniboine Forest. I was surprised at how well developed this area is. The trail is well cared for, although you'll still end up ankle deep in soggy spruce chips from time to time. Such is life....

Cache container is a 15" section of 3" black plumbing pipe, with air-tight caps. Please make sure the cap is securely replaced on leaving, or the contents will get soaked.

Cache is about 800 metres from the trailhead, and will be completely irretreivable from late fall to mid spring.

Note that this cache has a difficulty of 4. Please don't include significant hints in your logs, or I'll have to ask you to edit them...

GO NUMBER 300!!! For my 300th cache milestone, I didn't need to put a lot of thought into deciding which cache to do. I've had my eye on this one for QUITE a while, but never either had the time I thought it would require, or simply forgot about it for the most part. However... when the big 300 rolled around, it came whipping right back into memory.

And so for this cache... I prepared. A previous log mentioned needing some kind of tools to get the job done, so I decided to come prepared. Wire, twine, tape, rubber bands, magnets, pliers, knives, you name it. Heck... if there were some kind of mechanical emergency way out in the middle of Assinaboine forest... odds are I'd be able to solve it with what I had on hand .

The path that I followed towards the cache was relatively dry, given the rain that we had earlier in the day. I was actually somewhat disappointed that I didn't get hideously soaked. I was all prepped with sandals, scrappy pants, and still more complete willingness to get either wet . When I arrived near the cache though... I WAS a tad worried that I'd have to be damn-near swimming... but then I realized that I was looking the wrong way again. Whew . Pants and feet I could stand to get wet... but once the list would start to include underwear and shirt... I might have been a little more hesitant .

But... this was not the case. I arrived at the cache container, expecting to be knee-deep in water, the way grnbrg made it out to be . A little bit of dampness off the foliage, but otherwise there wasn't much difficulty.

Until of course I attempted to retrieve the cache . Given the large assortment of implements with me, I attempted to find a "shortcut" to obtain the cache... and almost had it... but alas, I was forced to get it the "proper" way . If only I had known beforehand and brought just one more thing, I could have made the entire process about 1/20th as difficult . As it is... I somewhat anticipated this style of cache hide, and was partially prepared for it. The cache put up a fight to be sure... but in the end, the Kabuthunk came out on top!

And then there was the matter of OPENING the cache container. That was an adventure in itself! Luckly, one of the implements that I brought with me made short work of opening the container, and at last I was inside! A quick chainmail balling, signing of the log, poking around of the various things inside the cache, and off I went! Closed it up nice and tight, and replaced the cache. At least THAT part was a lot easier than removing it . A very quick resetting of the cache back to it's original state, and off I went.

Thanks for the interesting adventure, even if I must have lost about a quart of blood to the mosquitoes there . The cache definitely put up a fight to get, I'll give it that .
