This traditional cache is hidden on Pollock Island in St Norbert. This cache was originally part of the Scrabble game series.

About This Cache

This camouflaged cache is hidden out of sight in the forest on Pollock Island. It should remain winter findable although the difficulty rating goes up in the winter, and like the name says, during the spring flooding, the cache will be on an island!

Follow the public trail along the Red River from the end of Rue St Pierre.

The cache is located on a once secluded estate. Originally owned by the Pollock family, the property became unusable when the 1997 flood rendered it only accessible by foot. Rather than selling the land, the Pollock family eco-gifted the property to the City of Winnipeg to be used as a park and natural area for the community. The property includes 16 acres of river bottom forest and is surrounded by the La Salle River on one side and the Red River on the other. When the two rivers are high, they join and create what the community refers to as St. Norbert's Island or Pollock Island (from The Winnipeg Free Press, "Get outdoors and active on the trail system", Jan 28 2006).

Prairie Pathfinders holds regular hikes all year long. The Pollock Island trail is part of the St. Norbert Heritage Trails.

Decided to wander over to this fella after taking on Riel's Sherwood. It's only another 500 or so meters. Let the bushwhacking begin! So onwards I travelled through underbrush, LOTS of fallen branches and trees, and BURRS! HOW CAN THERE EXIST SO MANY BURRS! I'm fairly certain I've discovered that there were at least 3000 of three different types of burr each on me... not including the 1800 from Riel's Sherwood . So once I get to the main 'area', I'm filled with awe and wonder. That place is awesome! Came across a REALLY old looking typewriter lying on the ground amongst other stuff left behind when the floodwaters wiped the place out. Various other things around. Quickly found the cache and signed me some logbook.
Then I started to head out. I saw a road. A road that takes me to a residential neighbourhood about two blocks away.
I bushwhacked for 1.5 km... before having to go to work... when I could have driven within TWO BLOCKS of the cache and walked down packed trail the rest of the way. Well... this was an interesting adventure to say the least. So... my 1.5km hike back to the car down residential roads began. It was hot, I was thirsty... but at least I claimed two caches in the hike! And it's a relatively safe bet that I took a route NOONE ELSE has ever taken, or likely will ever take .
Was wanting to take on the other Multi, but the start was just across the river there. And a buck says that the second half of that multi is on THIS side . Well, at least this time I'll have a shortcut to take.
