Low elevation cache - well-hidden. Rehide just as well. Bit of bushwacking - mark where you leave the trail. In fall/winter parking will be farther away - about .43 miles away. Summer you can get much closer. Cache is in St. Malo Provincial Park, bring pass. Kids can do it - our youngest is five and helped in the hide. But cover up or you'll get scratched. Once upon a time…there was a PIRATE. Alas, he lived in Southern Manitoba. All his life, he worked in what he considered mundane jobs: various factories, processing plants and retail stores. When the North Winds howled this poor pirate secretly dreamt of sailing the far seas. What a life it would be…seeing the Southern Cross on a warm mellow night, rather than shivering while gazing at the North Star. He’d find buried treasure on deserted islands, strike fear in the hearts of exotic women in foreign ports, and he could just picture himself singing, “YO HO HO AND A BOTTLE OF RUM…” while his cutlass gleamed in the sun. In reality, he lived a fairly dull life, but then he discovered geocaching, and a true prairie pirate he became. Finding treasure behind every bush, in every small nook and cranny of every tree. Every park seemed like a new continent waiting to be discovered. And then - suddenly…he disappeared - hiding his first geocache ever.
Take the co-ordinates, carefully measure
And follow the red-yellow path
For when you find his treasure
You’ll find he had the last laugh.
Please keep cache a mystery for others. Spoiler images may cause cache log to be deleted. Other humorous verbal references are allowed. If you spot the pirate -leave him be.
Am including pic of map for young families. Heavy bush cover means tricky satellite reception. We did 15 readings from various angles to get it right with most in very close agreement. Add cache to watch list

12/08/2013 By Kabutroid Ahhh... I've got to say, the camping trip that this geocache was found inside of was probably about the most idyllic camping ever. The entire time there was no clouds, little wind, perfect temperature, few bugs... just glorious.
So naturally during said camping trip, I had to scoop me up some of the geocaches from St. Malo. I had found the “Rizzo's Country Cousin” cache here a few years back, and I've been meaning to grab some of the others here since then. Seems that every other time I've come here, I either didn't update the GPS to have the caches, or didn't have it along. But this trip... it would be different!
This cache was the closest one to our campsite, and so the day after we arrive, I set out already to see if I can't find me some geocache. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to hike all the way over to the “official” entrance to the trail that this cache seemed to be on, and luckly the park was smart enough to put extra entrances to the forest trail here and there. About 15 minutes after I set out from my tent on foot, I had found my way onto the main park trail and was nearing the cache. At first I wasn't entirely sure how to get closer, but soon figured out where I should be going. In retrospect, I wonder if one even COULD get to the cache from the other side of the trail loop. Although, thinking about it afterwards, a lot of the colour references in the description and hint would have been completely lost on me due to the way I got to the coordinates.
But I digress. Working my way closer to ground zero, I was amused at what I soon stumbled upon. Unfortunately I was going into this blind, and hadn't read the cache description or anything about it beforehand. The added story to the cache would have made this a more fun experience, but ah well. It looks awesome, one way or the other, and I'm quite glad I brought my GPS this time. I'd actually taken a few pictures of it... again, not having read the cache description... so I'll avoid posting those into here.
Aaaand apparently I can't get enough of this cache. A few days later, I had realized that I didn't drop one of my signature chainmail balls into the cache... and that just couldn't stand. I worked my way back to the geocache without needing the GPS, and completed my mission. However, when I was halfway back to the tent, I realised that I had forgotten my hiking stick at the cache. Not wanting to leave that, I worked my way back to the coordinates for a THIRD time, and finally considered the cache as having been complete. I placed everything exactly as I had found it, and am definitely glad to have encountered this one. Very well done... nice work. Kinda wish I had done this one a little bit closer to night instead though .
