Bug one of five.
This small clearing houses a "Bug Hotel" basically a pile of old wood to provide a habitat for small bugs, reptiles and animals. THE CACHE IS NOT IN THE BUG HOTEL please do not disturb it.
Ground level, click lock box containing an Ugly Bug. Please leave him in situ.
Welcome one and all, to the Ugly Bug Ball
This triangle of woods is cut off from the rest of Banstead Downs by the A2022. It had become very neglected until the Winkworth Woodland Community Project was formed in February 2016 by local volunteers who cleared away debris and rubbish to make a pleasant alternative to walking along the main road.
Name change to Ugly Bug #1:
The Ugly Bug Ball was a nice idea using old tennis balls as caches. Unfortunately squirrels enjoyed them a little too much so I have reverted to traditional click lock boxes containing Ugly Bugs. Please leave these in situ.
I have kept the name Ugly Bug Ball and each cache will be numbered but not necessarily in any particular order. This is so I can add to the series as the fancy takes me. Add cache to watch list

11/06/2026 By Kabutroid WOOOOH, it's good to be back! In a triumphant return to geocaching after years away, it was good to get my feet wet again, both literally and figuratively! So the past few years have been tumultuous to say the least, and geocaching had fallen by the wayside. And then, with recent urging by my friend, and slowly putting together a new geocaching kit, the stars were starting to align for my return to the hobby. To getting out again, into the sun, into the rain, whatever the weather may bring. To go on an adventure!
And an adventure was had. Now, I decided to take some fight out of the equation by busing to the area first, rather than walk a solid mile in the drizzle. Which to be fair I would have probably taken on had it been warm and dry out, but today, we transited over to the area, and hoofed it for the last leg, watching my GPS. Which on that note, was being a bit peculiar. You're showing 2 to 3 bars of battery, but momentarily popped up a battery low warning? Strange. Well, no matter, onwards! In not too long, we reached the target area and circled around until we hit ground zero. And then, the hunting began. It took me a few minutes, getting my bearings back again so to speak.
Now, this is where it got... tricky. Shortly after arriving in the area, I looked down at my GPS, all fine and good, looked up and around for a few seconds, looked back down and... oh, the GPS is off now. Interesting. And will not power on again. I guess those batteries WERE a little comme ci, comme ça. So, with no reasonable way of reacquiring a direct bearing, I began the hunt. It got me into the area, that's gonna have to do.
Thankfully, in not too long, the cache was in hand, and I was a happy camper. It has been too long, and this find wonderfully ended a dry spell, again both literally and figuratively lol. Thank you for the hide, and though my GPS batteries forbade me from going after the other Ugly Bug caches today, that just gives me a reason to return to the area for more! And at long last, my signature item can start finding themselves into cache containers again :D
