What is Pi Day?
"Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “p”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.
Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern. While only a handful of digits are needed for typical calculations, Pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun challenge to memorize, and to computationally calculate more and more digits." -(reference: www.piday.org)
Circles happen to be swelbergen's favourite shape, while math is one of her favourite subjects to teach, and she loves pie (specifically Saskatoon berry pie), so hosting this event was a natural fit!

14/03/2016 By Kabutroid Wow, it has been FAR too long since I last went to a geocaching event. Though in my defence, I've gone through a fairly significant number of changes in the past few years, so geocaching kinda took a backseat for a while.
So, with that behind me, it's time to ease myself back into the waters here. And what better way than to go collect a travelbug or two to act as an excuse to get out geocaching more. And hey, it works out well. One of my pairs of jeans and one of my tank-tops recently got stains on them, so these seem like perfect candidates for 'muck about in the branches and mud while hunting for plastic in the forest'. Why so specific an outfit? Well, I don't own much in the way of women's clothing, so the less I destroy, the better
On that note, this is the first event I've been to where I've been out of the closet. Long story short, I'm transgender, so it was great to be able to introduce myself as Tannis . A few trans-allies were there as well, so I got to hear my name and 'she' a few times here and there as well . That outta the way, it was great seeing everyone again! Had a great chat with netleyhunter about the trials and tribulations of being next to an apparently great ice-fishing spot (sorry if I just chased more cars your way ). A lot of other random chatting about the goings-on of the others, and great food to boot. That quesadilla was amazing, and all in all, it was just a great evening . I'll definitely have to make my way out to more events in the future.
Also managed to pick up a handful of travelbugs while I was there (and log a train-destroyed TB by proxy... THANKS T S K!), so there's my excuse to get out geocaching again. Kinda funny actually, right after I left I decided to turn on my GPS, since I hadn't actually done that since I moved to the area. Turns out my old pocket queries were based on a route going almost exactly around where I live, so I can't even see if there's any nearby caches until I update it. Probably for the best, since the PQ in there is probably at least 6 months old. Like I said, I gotta get out more .
That said, thanks for the event, it was a blast!
Took: Four travelbugs Left: Logbook entry and chainmail ball
