Wooh! Been a long while since I've been to an event. And unlike my last few geocache outings, I'm pretty much unable to pull a DNF on this one
. At the bare minimum, I've driven by this place on countless occasions while in the Polo Park area. Pretty nice pub once you get inside too... tasty wings.
On a whim, I decided to pull out the chainmail shirt for the event. Seems that for just about every other event, someone or another requests me to wear it or are otherwise disappointed when I don't... so I figured I'd throw it on (figuratively... I can't imagine that being thrown too far) for a few laughs. Although unfortunately, the biggest fan of the chainmail apparently wasn't at this event.
But... headout out around 7:00ish, I eventually wound up at the pub by around 7:30. I kinda figured that there'd only be a small smattering of people there as with other pub nights that I've been to, with the bulk of the people showing up a bit later... but turns out I was quite incorrect. The tables in the area were packed, and MHZ made some room for me to find my way to the table. Although I was mildly lost when I first got there... I didn't immediately spot anyone's face that I recognized, so ended up asking the waitress where I should be walking. I'm surprised though... I figured the MBGA banner would be kicking around somewhere. Whenever you need to locate the geocachers, that's usually a pretty good indication
.
After parking myself at the table, I chatted it up with everyone there, got a pint, ate some wings, and generally had a relaxing, fun evening. Too bad I have to go to work tomorrow, otherwise I'd have probably stayed later. Although it's probably good that I didn't leave earlier, since it was apparently raining and lightning and whatnot. And with me wearing 15 pounds of galvanized steel on my upper body, that might not be so good. The water wouldn't harm it much, but I'm sure wet metal probably conducts electricity about as good, if not better, than dry metal. To top it off, I was wearing steel-toed, steel-soled safety shoes... however those are actually shock resistant, so for all I know that would have been better.
And the travelbugs! Holy hell but there was tons of them. Over the course of the evening, I either picked up, or was given a total of 5 TB's, and grabbed the tracking numbers for some others as well. Got me plenty of logging to do in the near future
.
Eventually, the event logbook showed up, and it was passed around the tables. I assume the outside of it is still the same (although it looks like it could use a new googly-eye), but I'm pretty sure that's gotta be a new book. Makes sense though... a handful of big events would start to fill the pages pretty quickly.
So with a geocaching bag full of TB's, I eventually decided to head home. There was a break in the rain, and I wasn't sure if it would pick up again or not, so I figured it'd be a good time to see how dry I can stay. But it was definitely nice to catch up with people, see what's going on, and also pick up a SCUBA tube from the MBGA store that I've been hankering for. Still not entirely sure why it's called a SCUBA tube, but I guess that's the name for a bison tube with one flat side or some such.
All in all, it was a fun evening, and I've definitely got to get out to these events more often. Nice to see you all again, and hopefully you'll see more of me in the future too. I've let geocaching in general slide for the past bit due to other hobbies soaking up some of my time, but the urge always returns. I specifically grabbed a travelbug to kinda coax me out sooner rather than later... and now with 5 of them sitting in my bag, I'm definitely going to have to pick up the pace
.
Took: An assortment of travelbugs which will be logged shortly.
Left: Logbook entry and chainmail ball... which Dani was having way too much fun with

On the way, and TB dropping.

Booyah, plans worked out such that I shouldn't have any problems heading over there. 'Bout time I can make another event.
