A long time ago, in a Geocache far, far away...
WWFM
(World Wide Flash Mob)
Episode X
It is a period of unrest as Geo-Jedis have risen up to combat evil Geo-hiders. They have won key areas of the province, striking from hidden Geocaches, signing log sheets and claiming new territory.
The dark masters of hides have planned a secret meeting to plan out the final destruction of the Geo-Jedis. Unfortunately, their plans have fallen into the hands of Jedi spies and Geo-Jedis.
Geo-Jedis have learned that the secret meeting is to be held between 1200 and 1215 hrs on Saturday, May the 4th, 2013.
The location for this meeting is on the Skywalker Bridge between (Cloud) City Place and the Millennium (Falcon) Library.
It will be a battle for the ages...
Mission Brief:
Geo-Jedis should come, armed with light sabers, sticks, hollow wraping paper tubes or whatever they can get their hands on to do battle with the evil Geo-hiders.
Prior to 1200 hours, (that's 12:00pm noon) Geo-Jedis must blend in with the muggles and act like muggles. At the signal, don your gear, fire up your saber and do battle en masse. The battle is to last for 5 minutes.
At 1205 hrs, drop your log sheet into the bucket (there will be no log book, just write your Geo-Jedi name on a scrap of paper.)
At 1210 hrs, there will be a group photo.
At 1215 hrs, the Geo-Jedis disperse and blend in with the muggles as if nothing happened.
May the 4th be with you

2 Logs: 1 1
04/05/2013 By Kabutroid Gotta say, this was one of the more entertaining flash mobs. I’ve only ever done a small handful of flash mobs, and pretty much all of them until now have involved just freezing in place. Which as entertaining and fun as that is, it was nice to do something different.
I had Laura drop me off at the entrance to City Place about a half-hour early, so I poked around a few stores for a little bit (although most were still closed evidently). After that, I meandered my way upstairs in an attempt to actually locate where this skywalk was. It’s been a fair number of years since I’ve been here, and my memory of the place was pretty rusty at best. However, I soon located the Robin’s Donuts, and coincidentally a handful of other geocachers kicking around (I apologize, as I can’t recall any of your names. I’m absolutely terrible with names, but if it counts for anything, I recognized most of your faces). Most people were hiding their lightsabers as best they could, but I unfortunately didn’t have much of an opportunity to do so. Mine was forged from the mighty wrapping-paper tube, and was thus less than collapsible.
What made things a bit more interesting is that I was supplying food for a gathering at a nearby friends place that afternoon, so I was wearing a massive camping backpack with about 30 pounds of stuff in it. Gotta say, my legs got a good workout, if not from going up sets of stairs and walking in general, than from me dropping down “injured” when another Jedi took out my legs (which seemed to be the kids’ primary target when sabering ). But despite the hefty load and rapidly increasing temperature in the skywalk during the event, I had a blast .
Several minutes before the event kicked off, I pulled my lightsaber from being strapped to my giant backpack, and prepared for battle. Gotta say though, I’m kinda glad that I used a tube from a vaguely higher-quality wrapping paper. Despite being beaten to hell and back, as well as being mildly kinked during my travels, it held up like a champ all the way through the event! At the beginning, I fought my way to the center where I was able to drop my log-paper and chainmail ball. After that, I fought my way back and forth a little bit until picture time.
It seems security was less than impressed with the flash mob however. About 5 minutes in, I saw them mouth something then step away again... no clue what they said. The second time I was closer, and they said we need to clear out since we were blocking the path, despite the fact that people were clearly going through. I get the feeling that, as a security guard, they were probably bored off their rocker, and decided to jump on anything they could.
After pictures, I wandered off relatively quickly since the aforementioned friends were waiting for me, and the frozen burgers/etc in my backpack were likely starting to warm up (although they were still frozen in the end). Wish I could have hung out a bit more and chatted with people, but today was a bit of a tight schedule for me. I kinda dropped out of the geocaching loop for the last 4 or so months, so I was hoping to be able to kinda integrate myself back into there. Hopefully I can make the next pub night event to chill for longer.
In either case, much fun had by all, and I had a blast at this event . These flash-type events are also extra-fun because they’re so fast, I can usually work other things around them. Just a quick burst of entertainment, then off to leave the bystanders bewildered and amused . As an added bonus, while with my friends that afternoon, I stumbled across a ridiculously massive ammo-can which will make my next geocache container . Today seemed to be a generally awesome day involving geocaching as a whole!
Took: Instructional sheet to log this event elsewhere... which has unfortunately gone entirely missing at this point it seems Left: Signed logbook sheet and chainmail ball
