1 Logs: 1
20/04/2013 By Kabutroid Ahhh... another find, bringing me to find 775. This, if you read my earlier log for my DNF (which if you want to learn an important lesson about Pocket Queries, you should... unless of course this is common knowledge or something that I simply didn’t know until now), is one of the other caches that have been ludicrously close to where I live (230 meters to be specific), but that I was completely unaware of due to some bizarre programming that Groundspeak used when generating certain PQ’s.
However, I happened to have stumbled across the existence of these when I was at my computer, and looking at the maps on the site, and noticed there was a few... well... immediately beside where I live just about. There’s still ANOTHER one that’s under half a kilometer away that I was unaware of, and a few others in the nearby vicinity. Seriously, I’ve got some hunting to do in order to get my Dani Radius to at least be more than a 2 minute walk distant .
Starting out, I didn’t have to worry about finding parking. I left my apartment building, crossed the street to get yet another DNF to add to my belt, then walked for a few short minutes to go after THIS cache. I also took my sweet time while looking, so that I could absorb the sun, enjoy the beautiful spring weather, watch the river flow, and listen to the ice break up as massive floes of it bashed into eachother just South of the geocache. Seriously, it was an amazing day to just stand back and relax. It could have been a little bit warmer, but still definitely a nice day .
I looked first around what would seem to have been an obvious place to search and came up empty. At that point, I spread out my search a bit, and started to head East, towards some box-looking giant birdhouses or something. Working my way over there, I found a cute cat sitting in the middle of the ‘village’ of houses. He took off when he saw me, I looked in one of the boxes and saw... a large pile of catfood! Well... it’s now become obvious as to why there’s so many wild cats in the area. Not complaining... I love cats and have two of my own. But yeah... it appears that some kind soul living around here has been giving the cats a nice meal. I decided it was highly unlikely the cache would be here, and headed back West again.
Going back to my initial hunting ground, I began to hunt around a little bit more thoroughly. Pondering the cache description and hint that I had read back at the apartment, I happened to look down in thought. Well... what in the world is THAT? As it turns out, what I had just picked up was the cache container itself . I most certainly think it wasn’t meant to be right there, so I was at a bit of a loss as to where it was supposed to go. One way or the other, I found the logbook inside, and dropped in a chainmail ball after signing it. I looked around a bit and placed the container where I figured it would best be hidden. The cache owner may want to double-check it, and message me if they need to know where I put it (or hell, I could come out and meet them there!) It was about 10 meters West of the coordinates, but that could just have been my GPS bouncing around, since there wasn’t really anywhere to hide anything at the coordinates itself.
So with the cache container placed in a logical location, I slowly worked my way out of the area, and back for a second failed attempt at that first cache .
Thanks for getting a cache so close to home! It was nice to be able to just step outside and walk over for a find. Especially on such a nice day out! Gotta say, just... standing there and watching the river for 5 minutes... glorious . People definitely need to just take the time to stand and watch nature. It’s sadly something rarely done by people who grew up in the city nowadays.
