This is part of an international multi-event taking place on 11-11-11! (See the Events Calendar)
Manitoba is only one of the locations across the world holding an event on this date! As this is part of a global event, there are also geocoins being created. We will only have 150 coins available to be pre-ordered.

How the distribution of the coins will work:
-Each coin will cost $11.
-Limit of 2 per geocaching ID (individual or team).
-Any coins not pre-ordered at the event will be available for sale at the MBGA Merchandise Store at a later date (to be announced).
-If you are not planning on attending the event, you cannot pre-order a coin. You'll have to order your coin through our merchandise page.

See you at the event!

Please note:

Due to a problem with the coin order, coins will NOT be available at this event. However, in the spirit of this event, we will be asking teams to pre-pay for their coin order at the event.

We are expecting the coins to arrive around November 18th and will plan an order distribution night shortly after that.

Any left over coins will be available for purchase first to people at the second event and then available online.

BLAGH! I completely forgot about the geocoins that one could pre-order at the event! I totally wanted in on this, but just outright forgot Frown. If it’s at all possible, could one of these be saved for me at all?

Aside from that however... the event! I spent much of the afternoon doing a bit of caching and spending time with the in-laws in general. Since my mother-in-law and sister-in-law wanted to take my wife out to the movies, I suddenly found myself without someone to drop me off and pick me up from there. Figuring the Santa Claus Parade would make parking in the area... less than optimal, I figured that would have been the easiest method. But oh well, roll with it. Due as well to my paranoid, country-boy nature, I wasn’t particularly confident about walking around down in that area on my own, so my father-in-law Ron came with me to have a pint, chat it up, and generally see what this whole geocaching thing is all about.

Added note on that: We may have a new future cacher, or at least someone who will definitely spread the word about it to others. He was VERY impressed at all the work and thought that go into caches and finding them. He only had a vague idea as to what this all was before, but with a distinctly firmer understanding now, he’s very curious and significantly more accepting of why we do it. It’s also his first geocache... anything (I even signed his name in the log under mine), so I guess technically if he starts up, he’ll already have one find under his belt ToungeOut.

Anyhoo, we arrived and managed to park about a block and a half away surprisingly. A quick walk over, and we found ourselves inside, kinda wondering where the geocaching part was. I quickly spotted several other cachers who pointed me in the right direction, and we headed down. Parking ourselves beside a number of other people (I apologize, I can’t remember your names offhand... I’m good with remembering faces, but terrible with names Frown), we began chatting it up. Ron, being how he is, was pretty much instantly able to start chatting it up with people, and easily flowed with the conversations, despite being completely green to geocaching (hey, we all gotta start somewhere). With a beer in our hands, the conversation amongst everyone there flowed through countless topics of which I can barely recall half of, and general good times and merriment was had by all.

As an added bonus, I was able to run into Klblue who had rescued a cache container that I had archived due to a hunter setting up a hunting nest in the area, and me not feeling safe enough to go back in after it. THANKS A MILLION MAN BigSmile. I told him he can keep the container and re-release it into the wild, but the logbook was the important part to me. He returned the logbook at this event, and I’ll now be able to post the logbook pages on my page for it. Excellent stuff, and now there’s no geo-trash left there as well BigSmile.

So all that taken care of, Ron went up for another beer, and (again like him) happened to have stumbled across someone that he knows, and chatted it up with him for a while. After he returned and more general chatting, a number of people were starting to prepare to head out. We figured it’d probably be a good idea to follow suit, since he works unusual hours, and I was just somewhat tired in general. Thus, after a bit more chatting and discovering a few travelbugs, we headed out and back towards the car.

Thanks for the event! I’ve always said I’ve wanted to make it out to more events in general, so I’m definitely glad I was able to make it out to this one... especially since it’s an international multi-event. Hopefully I can continue to make it out to more Smile.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and chainmail ball

I should be able to make it to this event. Hopefully I'll actually remember on the day of this time ToungeOut.
