This cache is not quite as 'exciting' as its namesake but you can still 'score' a smiley!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

FTF prize is a Shamrock pin and Certificate.

Dropped by last night to add the FTF certificate and a scratch ticket for the next finder.

Congrats to Us3Greens on getting the FTF

Found it 26/12/2012 By Kabutroid
I’m guessing that dtex got a nice path to follow to access this cache, because when I got there at about 11:00 or so this morning, I certainly didn’t have any convenient footsteps to follow in to avoid getting snow in my shoes ToungeOut. Gotta say though, considering everything, I managed to get to and from the cache with surprisingly little snow crammed into my shoes. Didn’t even need to change my socks! And given I’ve been wearing ankle weights for the past while to strengthen up my stamina, the extra 5 pounds per foot didn’t exactly make that easy!

But I’m very glad I was able to go after this cache. Every so slowly, I’ve been inching my way towards eventually trying to get a cache found on every day of the year. And while I wasn’t able to tackle a cache on Christmas day this year, I did at least manage to bookend it with a find on both Christmas eve and Boxing day, knocking off those two still somewhat difficult to get days of the year.

Since Christmas day this year was at my in-laws place, I was spending Boxing day out with family in Carman. On a whim and a hope, I grabbed my geocaching kit and vaguely hoped I’d be able to snag something on the way out. I figured it very unlikely that I’d be able to go after a cache either while in Carman, or on the way home due to the food-coma that I inevitably put myself in after just about every dinner at this time of year ToungeOut. Since both of those came true, I’m definitely glad I went after this beforehand. While driving out, I glanced at the GPS and noticed that this was on the way, and being not a micro at least somewhat less likely to put up a fight. We were a bit late heading out as is, so I didn’t want to spend 45 minutes hunting around.

Upon reaching near ground zero, I found myself at a bit of a loss as to how to actually get to the coordinates. As mentioned above, the extra 5 pounds per leg didn’t help matters. But a few minutes of repeatedly stomping out steps allowed me to reach the cache at least somewhat vaguely dry. As the difficulty level indicates, I had little problem finding the cache once I actually managed to get within arms reach of it. Quickly popping it open, I did a quick skim of the contents and signed the logbook. I attempted to write the Ukrainian Christmas greeting (despite being a day late) of “Khristos Rodyvsya”, but couldn’t entirely remember how to spell the second word. Anyone familiar with the term will be able to catch what I mean pretty easily though.

That aside, once the logbook was signed and a micromail ball dropped in (it was a bit too full to be able to get a regular sized signature item in there), I closed it up and popped it back into place. Thankfully, my steps were fairly well made on the way in, so I had no problems returning to the car without getting any further snow into my shoes. Mission accomplished! The remainder of the day went smoothly... excellent roads for driving, delicious food, presents all around, and general fun and merriment with family and friends... good times, good times.

Thanks for putting a most convenient cache over here. I’ve always been hoping to see more caches along the stretches of road between Winnipeg and Carman, so the fact that this was here was unbelievably well placed and easy to get to let me make a quick find and knock December 26th off of my list o’ days to get. Course, the calendar for most of winter is pretty sparse at best, but hey... at least I’m actively attempting to fill it in. And if I can tackle the “harder to get” days, all the better. ESPECIALLY this year, where November and December seem to have been bizarrely busy, barely allowing me to get on the computer, let alone update my GPS and head out for caching!

As an added bonus, I think I've only found one other 'premium member only' cache before, so I'm both glad I'm a premium member, and was able to add another one of these to my list o' finds BigSmile.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry and micromail ball
