Winter Fun Day 2010

Hristos Voskrese! Beautiful day today for geocaching. Well, aside from the minor bit of rain earlier, but we went after the cache sometime after 5:00pm. For the first healthy chunk of day, we were naturally spending time with my wife's family for Easter gathering and eating. Had to do that earlier than most, since her dad had to work tonight. However, that left ample time for geocaching afterwards. After heading home through a bit of rain, the skies quickly cleared up and we were out the door again. One quick trip to Assinaboine Park later, and we took a nice, long walk. After all, we had to at least attempt to work off some of those calories from earlier ToungeOut .

Thus, after about a 3km walk round-trip, we worked our way towards one of the nearby geocaches... this one! Since we had wanted to try a path that didn't happen to have any geocaches on it (I didn't really bother to check where the caches I hadn't yet found in the park were), the walk ended up being mostly cacheless. But thankfully, at the very end, we decided to head over towards the Pavilion before going back to the car. This cache being pretty much right beside the Pavilion worked out nicely for us. Especially so since I had a geocoin that I wanted to drop off today, and a micro cache probably wouldn't work all that well.

Walking up to the area, my wife wandered off to read whatever was posted on the wall of the nearby building, near the stone tables. I however took all of maybe 5 seconds to find the cache once I reached ground zero... and that included removing any natural camouflage and retrieving it ToungeOut . Yeah... the 'natural camouflage' of the cache was... shall we say... conspicuous at best. However, given how often the cache has been found lately, I'm not all that surprised, really. Thus, I took the cache container over to one of the stone tables and my wife and I poked around at the contents. There wasn't particularly anything there that caught our eye.

And speaking of which... the cache currently shows that there should be four travelbugs of some sort in it. Being as we completely emptied the cache container onto the table, I can assure you that we didn't spot a single travelbug tag inside of that thing. I have no clue where they are, or if they were removed but just not logged elsewhere... but yeah, not in the cache. Well, there IS a geocoin there now. I dropped the 'Pirate Booty - Skull and Map Dubloon' geocoin into the cache container after signing the logbook, and of course tossing in a chainmail ball. The log entries on the sheet were kinda... all over the place however. It looks like half of them are on the back of the 'first' sheet, and another pile of them were on the front of the second sheet. I myself signed the back of the first sheet, since that would make the most sense to me, but it looks like even today alone, there's entries on both pages. I was also amused by one of the logs on the sheet, at the bottom of the second page I think, that said something about a news reporter. Kinda wondering if there was a thing on geocaching done, in which this cache was featured. Suppose I can probably read through the online logs later to check.

Anyway, I'm getting off-topic here. Found the cache, replaced everything inside of it, and replaced it back where it was hidden. Although, I decided to give it a bit more natural looking camouflage, and thus used much of the surrounding natural camo to make it look... well... natural. It should at least be less obvious for the next finder, anyway.

And so, thanks for the cache, since it was a nice 'final point' of the walk that we did today. It seems that every time I visit Assinaboine Park, there's always more caches here to find Smile .
