Found it 11/05/2013 By Kabutroid
Y'know, I COMPLETELY did not expect to find what I found here. Like... absolutely out of left field. I hadn't read the cache description or seen any pictures others have posted, so I was going into this completely blind. And the funny part is... I almost pulled a DNF on it! Man, would THAT have been embarrassing.

I had spent the afternoon in Winkler watching my niece perform at the concert hall, and seeing as it was an earlier showing, loaded up my GPS with a cache along a route PQ. I may not have had the cache descriptions on my cellphone or palm pilot due to lack of time, but I had waypoints... good enough. On the way back, I decided to only go after a handful of them instead of clean out the entire highway 75... mainly because my wife was with me (non-geocacher). But that's all good, since I didn't particularly want to cache in the dark, and it was slowly getting a bit chilly out towards evening.

However, I DID have one area that I planned to cache... that being the area immediately around this church. I've driven by it a handful of times (normally, we take the #3 to visit my sister in Carman... not often we go down #75), and EVERY SINGLE TIME, I've always been curious as to what the story is behind it. Thus... today I would cache my way to an answer! And as it turns out, there wasn't just one... or two, but THREE caches in the immediate vicinity BigSmile! And so, after finding the 'Union' cache slightly South of here, I zipped over to the other side of the highway (thankfully with absolutely no traffic) and headed over towards this one.

When I arrived at ground zero, I was a bit perplexed. I saw what appeared to be a plywood cutout lying face-down. I figured it was some old advertisement for something or another that was dumped there, and proceeded to lift it up to find out what it actually was. Keeping in mind that I had not read any info on this cache, imagine my surprise when what should I spot, but a fellow geocacher I had just helped to his feet ToungeOut. Gotta say... DAMN good job on it. Seriously, did NOT see this one coming. It was awesome. Despite being at the cache on my own, I still managed to snap a pic of me (see attached).

Having found THAT portion of the puzzle, I was completely perplexed as to where the cache container was. I thought at first it actually WAS the geo-plywood, and was looking for a place where a logbook might be tucked into it somehow. When that obviously turned up nothing, I scouted around the area, seeing what else I could stumble across. Spreading out a little bit, I still found nothing until I started to hunt around a little bit closer to the coordinates. In the end... JACKPOT! I poked around the cache container to look for travelbugs needing to be moved, but found nothing (sorry “Brett's Hemi Cuda”, I think you're missing). Tossing a chainmail ball into the container, I signed up the logbook and closed everything up again.

I was pondering for a few minutes as to how to make the geocacher stand up better. Given my own discovery of the poor guy lying face-down in the dirt, I wanted to see if I'd be able to make him stand up a little bit better against the wind. I don't know how possible it'd be after he's already been built, but putting a 'bottom' on it, and filling the base with rocks would do wonders I think. However, lacking pretty much anything of the sort, I just attempted to stand him up in such a way that if the wind blew him over again, he would hopefully at least not fall completely down. In either case, awesome cache! Definitely makes it to my 'favourites' list BigSmile! And given this is my 18th favourite in 779 finds, that's saying a lot!
