Today was a rather interesting day. Well, for one I got to go geocaching, which is always good. Especially since I haven't had a chance to go geocaching for over 30 days... a decline that's only happened once or twice before in my history of caching. But... slumps happen, and video games come out (and/or are replayed... Fallout New Vegas = awesome). But as it turns out, despite most of the weekend being pretty much entirely taken up by various family gatherings, I managed to get some snowshoeing in today BigSmile! Especially nice since the past while has been way too warm, and I'd have a hundred pounds of sticky almost-slush stuck to my snowshoes prior to this recent cold snap.

So off I went, on a geocaching venture. I was batting around where to go, but suddenly latched onto Kil-Cona park (the truly sad part however is that when I drove up today, I JUST realized what that name actually meant ToungeOut. Never thought about it much apparently). It was fun here the past few trips, sounds like a good decision in my book. Finding the parking lot peculiarly full, I found a parking spot and worked my way onto the snow.

The solid, rock-hard snow.

Well, this is a bit of a disappointment, I thought. So I just hoofed it in my winter boots in the general direction of the geocache, hoping to come across softer snow. After going over the hill and a bit down the other side from the parking lot, I finally sank down about a foot or so in some softer snow. Ahhh... THERE'S where my snow is.

Stopping immediately to gear up, I quickly headed off with the snowshoes strapped on. About 10 feet later I found I was on a semi-solid crust again, but there was enough soft spots to warrant still wearing them.

As I reached the coordinates, I was very thankful that, despite having seen dozens of dog walkers going by while putting on my snowshoes, this stretch, as far as I could see in both directions, was completely devoid of people or animals BigSmile. Perfect timing! I quickly found my way into the trees (where there was also nice soft snow BigSmile) and began to hunt around. About 20 seconds in, I happened to spot just a bit of the cache container peering back at me. A quick retrieval later, and the cache was in hand!

Coast still clear? Yep... eeeexcellent.

However, to not press my luck further, I quickly tossed in a chainmail ball, a Dragon-based geocoin, and football TB, and signed the logbook. Quickly closing everything up and replacing it as found, a quick brush of the hand made the area about as identical as possible to when I walked in. Heading back across the trail to continue snowshoeing, I was pleased to see the path still empty. Nice timing indeed BigSmile.

Thanks for getting me out to Kil-Cona park again. I've really got to come here more often.

Took: Nothing
Left: Logbook entry, geocoin, TB, and chainmail ball
