It should be a fairly nice gentle walk to the cache site. Stealth maybe required depending on the time of day that you go. Please place cache carefully back in the same place from whence you pulled it. The cache was placed along a very public walking path. I noticed it was a nice area and that there were no caches nearby. Enjoy the nice area and lake further down. Cache was the idea of a friend who is a Rider fan. Go figure.

This cache certainly put up quite the fight today (this cache being logged several days late, but to avoid confusion I'll post in present-day tense). I had just finished finding the nearby 'And a Micro in a Pine Tree' cache, and noticed that this cache was quite nearby, so I figured I'd tackle it.

Actually, there appears to be multiple caches nearby, but I haven't updated my GPS in several weeks, so that's likely why I only got 2 cache finds today .

But nonetheless, after the previous find, I zipped over to this one on my bike to see if I could get a two-fer. The park was still surprisingly quiet for such a beautiful day, so I wasn't going to pass up the almost-lack of pedestrians nearby. Or at least in the section of the park close to this cache, there was absolutely nobody, and those that WERE on the other side of the park seemed to be doing whatever activities that would keep their attention away from a random biker 'taking a break'.

I started out with a fairly light searching, just doing a scan over the area without actually moving anything or stepping behind or around anything. Just… observing the area, kicking back, chillaxing, etc. Finding nothing in this manner, I picked it up a little bit and did some stepping around and circling, attempting to spot anything out of the ordinary. This was listed as a ‘small’ instead of a ‘micro’, so I looked in the ‘typical’ places that one might find a cache of that size in this type of location. Unfortunately, all of those avenues led to dead-ends.

After about 5 to 10 minutes of casual searching, a family was slowly meandering down the trail, so I relaxed my hunt entirely until they had disappeared around the corner down the street. With the area completely empty again, I began my hunt once again in earnest. Looking under, around, between, and just about everywhere I could come up with, my poor, now-stabbied arm still came out empty. Sitting down for a few seconds to collect my thoughts, I happened to glance upwards, and happened to be at JUST the right angle to see that ‘out-of-the-ordinary’ thing that I had been searching for for so long.

At long last, the cache was finally in sight! Quickly maneuvering myself into a position to reach it, it was only a few moments before the cache was in my greedy hands. Luckly, by the time I sat down with the cache, another few people were slowly working their way up the trail. At this time however, I was able to take my time perusing the cache contents and signing the logbook (and dropping in a chainmail ball). I have to admit, the cache wasn’t hidden in one of the ‘typical’ ways I had figured, but I’m glad I was able expand my repertoire of types of places to look when under these conditions . I’m not sure how it didn’t occur to me to begin with, but it’s all fine and good in the end.

Thanks for giving me a nice relaxing place to park myself after about 6km’s of biking (well, also with a break at the other cache). It was a beautiful day to be out, the sun was shining, there was a nice breeze, and I got some caching in. MAN, this is what spring is all about. At least until it turns stupid cold and wet again one more two more times before summer proper is here . But hey, at least I made use of this one good day .
