The Tall building that is likely playing havoc with your GPSr is 55 Nassau. It was built in 1970 and at 354 feet tall is now Winnipeg's 5th tallest bulding. The new Hydro building is at 369 feet. Did you know however that of all the high-rises in the city, this building has the most floors.....38 The CanWest Place building at 420 feet tall only has 33 floors.

Happy Hunting

Found it 9/27/2008 by Kabuthunk
The third cache in my walkabout of the as-of-yet-unfound Osbourne Village caches. I had actually contemplated going after this one on the night it was published to attempt a FTF, but got lazy. Although, given the time indicated by the sickly Antihero, he probably would have beat me to FTF anyway ToungeOut.

I had actually parked about a kilometer's walk away from here. However, given how nice a day it was, I had no qualms with walking all the way over. I think the forcast said it was supposed to be +14, but it certainly felt a lot warmer than that. The sun beating down, but with a nice, cool breeze? Combine that with the changing colours of the leaves, and you have yourself a beautiful day to be outside BigSmile.

Working my way towards the cache, I was still shocked by the sheer lack of people also going for a stroll outdoors. Bah... cityfolk... most of them wouldn't know a nice hike outside if it bit them ToungeOut. I quickly discovered that the buildings nearby were indeed playing a bit of havoc with the GPS's accuracy. By the time I had reached 'ground zero', it had placed me about 7 meters from the actual cache. However, that seemed to like fluxuating to anywhere between 0 and 12, so I can only guess that the coordinates for the cache are most likely correct ToungeOut.

Once I reached the area, I quickly determined that there can't be all that many places for a cache to hide around there. My first attempt ended turned up empty... however about 20 seconds later, I located the cache! It was quite visible, however... the sun was glinting off of it, and I think there was all of one 'piece' of natural camouflage. Giving the cache a good look-through, I couldn't find any tradeables and thus dropped a chainmail ball into the mix. One signing of the logbook later, and I closed up the cache.

Speaking of which... is it just my imagination, or do the 'clasps' or whatever they are of the cache lid not too fond of staying clasped? It seems like they kept attempting to automatically open itself. That could very well be due to the 'newness' of the container, and repeated flexing of the clasps from finders will take care of that... but future cachers may want to make sure they're all closed up properly. One side was either open when I found it, or almost un-clasped. I re-closed it as best I could when I replaced it, but who knows if it'll try to re-open again.

But that aside, I gave it a nice, as-natural-as-I-can coating of natural camouflage. Making sure it didn't look obvious from a normal-pedestrian point of view, and I headed on my way. At which point, I noticed something that amused me quite greatly about this mini-park. The squirrels here aren't afraid of like... anything. I was able to get about 10 feet from one, which was digging around in the leaves, assumingly looking for food for the coming winter. It didn't even run when I kinda creeped forwards with my camera to see if I could snap a good picture of it.

Thus, attached is quite possibly the closest picture of a squirrel I've ever been able to manage without having a handful of sunflower seeds or something ToungeOut. So if future cachers are up for watching squirrels, this is definitely the place to be Smile.

Thanks for the cache though! A fun find on a nice day, followed up with squirrel-watching ToungeOut.
